I call my hookah a waterpipe. Am I missing the argument where this isn't true?

As do I, on occasion. Technically the term is incorrect.

*RULES*

There are to be no drug references in posts. This can be anything from *****, to someone talking about *******, to the mention of *** being something else a poster smokes. This will not be tolerated in this community. This includes such phrases and euphemisms as "not always shisha" ,"the other stuff", "the stuff we don't mention" ETC. If it's not tobacco or herbal based SHISHA, just don't mention it.

Come on guys.... Why do we even need posts like this? They always break the rules and we all have the same stories. People we love/ know/ don't care about think it's something bad and frowned upon because they have the wrong idea or will never understand. The above said people will either come around or they won't.

There are more than enough posts in this to lock it down. So please stop w/ the references or I'm killing this thread. You have been warned!

I do find it very annoying when people give me looks for smoking hookah or dont want to take the time to understand it. For instance recently me and a couple of my friends who are all 18 or older were smoking at the pool in my apartment complex and one of the workers came over and with a very strong attitude told us we had to get rid of that thing and go somewhere else. Which I found very bothersome because there are ash trays all around the pool and smoking is allowed there. Then when I tried to point that out to her and explain what hookah is she wouldn't listen and just told us if we didnt leave she would bring the manager over.

I get a lot of crap from people who don't really know how a hookah works, but it really is understandable and I don't mind so much in the end. A close family member totally dejects me for my use because he thinks that it's the same as smoking cigarette, though I know damn well it isn't the same. It's frustrating when no matter how hard you try to convince people, they stay adamant about their standings.

I'm sure your landlord will tell you it includes any smoking. That would include hookahs.

but what damage (minus coals) could hookah smoke do to the house? none.
that was my point.....i think hookah should be in a different catagory

You may thingk that and I might think that, but I doubt your landlord does. Unless your lease agreement specifically states otherwise, you should assume that hookahs are included in 'no smoking'.

Well spoken man, it's the same with me and my friends. I swear, I fell like I'm their fathers' sometimes when they ask stupid things like that.

I get those ignorant misconceptions occasionally. My favorite is when they assume that I have a lighter on me, despite the fact they know I smoke hookah and don't smoke cigarettes. Really, guy? Lets ignore your logic on how you think a hookah works, but do you think I carry it around with me all the time? Yeah, I really have enough time on my 15 min break to set up my hookah, a bowl, and drag everything out to the designated smoking area and smoke.

Personally I don't care if people are ignorant of the idea or are just looking but when some jerk decides to call the police and harrass is another matter. Last weekend we were sitting at my friend's deck behind his house BBQing, drinking bear and we had a hookah going. This is on his deck in his private yard, not a condo or anything like that. All of a sudden a police car showed up and an officer came around. He looked around and saw what we were doing and right away he apologized for the interuption. We asked whats going on and he said " A neighbor" called the police and told them there was some illegal activities going on at the house and they should investigate.

I just tell people that if fire wasn't involved, I'd sleep with my KM while smoking.

I've had issues with the police while smoking my hookah in public view. A simple explanation and showing them the tobacco usually solves the issue. They usually want me to take it inside and out of view though. One cop said "People are going to think you're doing something illegal with that". My reply was "My mother always told me not to care what other people think". He didn't like that, lol. Bottom line, its legal, and I went to Iraq to earn the damn habit, let me enjoy it! I went ahead and took it inside that time, I don't want to be on the bad side of the police.

At my old apartments, the people in the office wanted to talk to me because the lady who lived TWO FLOORS ABOVE ME said that she was smelling a weird smell. Well, any of you who smoke hookah can attest that there really isn't a whole lot of smell and if there is, it's generally quite pleasant (With the exception of the first 5 minutes after you light a quick-light coal which I don't use anymore. Coconaras and Exoticas for me.) Additionally, there is no better smell than my local hookah bar. I don't know what it is, maybe just all the different flavors combining or something. ANYWAYS. Somehow they knew I smoked hookah and they needed me to explain it to them. There wasn't any smoking rules at these apartments, and at the time I did smoke cigarettes, but only outside. That was the end of it. Made me a little worried though.

EDIT: Whoops... broke the rules and didn't mean to. sorry. edited it out.
