Unhappy Problem with my small hookah

Hi guys,

New to the forum but found so much information on here with how to make the smoke better.

The trouble i am having is when i set up my shisha and start "puffing" away, i hardly get any smoke out of it. I have also used a bigger bowl (robinsons bottle lol) and again dont get much

Could this be due to a small base and small clay bowl?

I have made my own diffuser and this didnt make any difference.

I have attached pictures of my hookah.

Hope you can help me.

How much water do you put in the base?

What are you smoking and what coals are you using? Are you getting any flavor? If you're not getting much flavor or smoke, try increasing the heat (throw another coal on). Windcover might help as well.

Try with a windcover and densely packed nakhla.

i was doing it in the house so there was no wind. since my bowl is small i have to squash the tobacco enough (leaving enough gaps so the heat gets through it )

do you reckon i need a bigger bowl and putting the water so that it is half a cm above the base of the down pipe sufficient?

After placing the coals on the bowl, warm up 3-5 minutes with the windcover on.

Are you using QL or nats? If you are using QL, get some nats. They give off alot more heat for a longer time.

QL=Quick lights Nats=natural

Use the coconara. They are natural coals.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

half a centimeter?? The down stem should be in about an inch or half an inch into the water. The water is not your problem anyway. I think your rig is not tightly sealed. You're using foil as a grommet for the bowl and I don't know how you sealed the stem into the base but I can't see a grommet on that either. I also don't see a grommet on your hose. One of those three or all of those three are not tightly sealed thus you're breathing in air. Your hookah can smoke like a champion even with that small bowl but I think you're having a sealing issue.

Windcover is there to retain the heat, more so than to protect your coals from an actual wind (when smoking inside). Just think of it as adding another coal.

Hi,

The rig does sit into a grommet, but the problem i have with the grommet is that when i put the rig into the base with the grommet after a while it gets loose. for this reason i tried the robinsons bottle that was a perfect fit for the rig (Without the grommet).

With regards to the grommet for the bowl, the rig is soldered with the ash plate along with a "metal" grommet at the top (replacing a rubber grommet). the reason why im using foil under the bowl is to give it a tight fit ontop of the soldered grommet as it it loose without the foil.

I dont have a grommet on the hose, i never knew i needed one? where would this be fitted as my mates i don think has a grommet there.

You're gonna have to get a thin grommet for that hose since your stem's hose port is kinda small. The thin grommet might not even fit when you use it on the hose so you might need to use foil instead. Also I really don't get how your bowl is soldered on the top... that makes cleaning the hookah very painful. If the grommet on the stem is getting loose then you just need a bigger grommet. You can use electric tape instead to make sure you have a tight fit on there.

You will need to make a tight fit on your hose and stem. This is your problem right now.

The bowl isnt soldered on, the ash plate is and a metal grommet thing on top of it

i have added an extra pic of the top on my original post.

That's not a grommet. That's just the nipple that the bowl fits down on. It still needs a gasket to make a seal.
Any good vendor should have something that will fit. If push comes to shove, wrap it with electrical tape until the bowl fits down on it snugly.
The same can apply to your base and your hose. At least until you can get some proper replacements.

Thats not a grommet...You need a rubber grommet on top of that to make a tight seal otherwise you are just breathing in air. Your hookah needs to have a tight seal on the bowl, the stem and base, and the hose. Also I would test that hose if it has any holes in it just in case. Seal the end of it with your thumb and try blowing air into it. If air goes through then you will need a new hose.

There are many vendors online that sell grommets for cheap. You will probably need to buy the thin Mya grommets so, two vendors that come to mind right now are hookah-shisha and sahara smoke but I would just search google for mya grommets and go with the cheapest vendor.

If you get pricey shipping then I would look for a hookah shop nearby to purchase from. Look for any place that sells hookahs where you live.

hey the problem is with the base... if the base is small it causes harsh smoke... and u make more holes in the foil while setting the bowl....
putting proper holes changes all the game

You wont get much smoke from using that bottle for several reasons.

1. The top of the bottle will restrict flow.
2. The smoke is pulled from the base where the top of that bottle connects to the stem, so you are cutting off your smoke supply.

Down stem 1 to 2 inches under water. Read up on how to pack Nakhla, don't stagger your coals like that if you think you aren't getting enough heat. Also that bowl (Tobacco holder, base holds water) is shitty looking, id invest in a new one, you should get tons of smoke with 20g tobacco and a single coal on that bowl.

Make sure you clean your hookah often, never wash your hose.

Not true. Small bases work fine. If the smoke is harsh its because hes burning tobacco, or doesnt have enough water. Ive smoked with bases half as big as that no problem.

Ive been smoking only for few months. If you set up a small hookah right it can hit just as good as a big one.
