Default Woohoo I fixed it!!

Hey guys (sorry i couldn't decide between putting this here or the homemade section) so I recently got a dish vase for my AF large solid but the downstem is too short for the vase and no grommet (yes even the thinnest MYA gasket) would fit. So I did a little work and re-piped the downstem making it longer and made a painted-on silicone gasket. Pics for anyone who'd care to do the same for their AF solid:

Yeah, good job. Did you cut the original downstem off and welded the copper pipe to a length of that or is the copper pipe sitting on top of the original downstem?

well so far the silicone doesn't seem like it's going anywhere but I do see where you're coming from, we'll just have to see.

Have you thought about JBQuickWeld? Since you are sheathing and that area gets neither hot, nor terribly wet it might be a good solution.

For a more permanent solution. I would consider Brazing. All ya need is a propane torch, some flux and a metal coathanger. Or you could try solder.

was considering soldering, which I have limited experience with. For the moment I just wanted something airtight so I wouldn't worry about water getting between the two and corroding the original downstem.

the only thing I can think that would worry me is that if some nasty old water/juice gets between the new pipe and the old pipe. It might add flavor somehow. How long did you leave the stem inside?

the new stem is only 1.5 inches longer than the old one. I silicone sealed both ends of the new addition, there shouldn't be a way for water to get between them

I was considering drilling holes in the bottom of the downstem but I don't want to permanantely remove the nice rumble sound
