Shisha will not become illegal anytime soon. It falls into the pipe cigar tobacco category.

i heard, that they want to make it illegal in the united states, because it is like a gateway drug for children, because of the flavored tobacco. young people like these flavors, but they dont like cigarettes or cigars because they are kinda disgusting. hookah makes young people start smoking.

yes it is, but who cares about these age limits? thats the biggest problem, and thats also, why alcopops are illegal in Germany now.

If anything... they wont make it illegal but they will tax it till the consumer cant afford it.

Considering the MiddleEastern and Indian demographic that makes up chunk of people here in the states that smoke hookah. Am pretty sure some lobbyist could easily spin how making shisha illegal is being intolerant to other cultures... Which I doubt any law maker would touch making it illegal. So instead like anything they want to be illegal but cant... they will tax it until people quit doing it.

A good point, to be sure. Just don't underestimate the cunning and insensitive, self-propagating and narrow minded ways and motives of your government . . . jmho. Smoke happy.

Perhaps in Canada, with our puritanical politicians and legions of soccer moms. More bullshit studies are coming out, stating that shisha is the most harmful thing to hit civilization since Ancient Rome's infamous lead pipes.

Apparently, everything pleasant should be disallowed and banned, for the common good derp derp

Don't sleep I revived this email from a cigar lounge I frequent in NYC (Manhattan)

Dear Cigar Inn Members, Fans and Clients
WE NEED YOUR HELP.
We need your support on May 4th, 2010 at 10am down at the Board of Health Hearing. The board of health is hearing testimony that will greatly influence it's enforcement of Local law 69 which will ban flavored cigars and pipe tobacco for sale, including these products in your favorite tobacconist inside the city limits. I encourage all you who can attend to do so. The city needs to see that even though their intent is to protect children from these products the reality is that they are going to destroy small businesses who do not sell to children. We need to convince them to leave the Professional Tobacconist's alone and let us do what we do best, sell tobacco and tobacco related products to adults who want to experience the pleasures of the art of smoking. Please join us at The New York City Board of Health at:

May 4th Public Hearing:

10:00-12:00noon

3rd Floor Boardroom, Room 330

125 Worth Street

New York, NY 10013

Between: Lafayette & Centre

the only time shisha would be illegal is when tobacco is rated as a illegal drug, which i don't think this would come anytime in our lives, our children lives and their children children lives if that makes since.

If they can make shisha illegal then cigarettes should also be made illegal, which is near impossible. It is flavor tobacco. Most likely less harmful than a cigarette. Besides, as others pointed out, it would be a matter of rejecting someone's right to their culture.

Ah, mass revolution. The great American fantasy. I can't wait to see that happen, personally.

True, but it also has origins in rebelling against a government that taxes it's people without hearing them. I don't think our government is much in favor of our origins at this point, IMO.

In my opinion, this definitely makes the most sense, which sadly may happen with that new bill to increase the tax on flavored tobacco something in the neighborhood of 700%. Of course, I don't know what the current status of that bill is, but I take it as a huge hint of our government's intentions.
