Default Anyone tried this with electric coal?

Hi,

a guy on another forum said you could just lay the electric coal on the tobacco, without using foil, so straight on the tobacco, for more heat/smoke.

I thought you would get too much smoke because of the heat, as there's no foil now and the coal touching the tobacco, but he says that doesn't matter, as the foil is only used to keep the ash from falling on the tobacco.
The only negative is that your shisha will stick to the coal, and it gets dirty, but you can clean it ofc.

Anyone tried this?

well the day before yesterday I tried the electric coal cause I ran out of QL's.
I dont like the electric coal anyway. Im sorry I bought it. Theres no heat managment. But I do use the foil and from what I've read you should use the foil or the tabacco will stick to the coal.

I don't have one, they sell those in a dutch webshop, I'm sure there are some US shisha or just US shops who sell them too.

It works like a normal coal, but no need to light it, and no taste from any QL/Nats, no shit!

A friend of mine got one, but the smoke is quite bad, but the taste is OK. But with this you solve the smoke prob so it is like a normal coal.

well if your going to buy one do realize that at least the first couple of session it is going to tast strange. Because the heated part is ceramic. It gives an odd taste to it... at least in my opinion.

Hehe, I don't think I am going to buy electric coals.
Just got like 7kg of nats coming from Germany, and I hear about nats are doing better than elec coal, so no need to buy it.
If I want to experiment with it, I'll do it with the elec coal of a friend of mine.

You need to plug it in. It has a sort of transformator going to the wall plug. Then a wire from the other end and you plug that into the plug coming out from the coal.

But its a bitch to get it through the holes of the windcover and then set it down on the bowl on the right spot. If I were you I wouldn't even try it.

NAH i dont wanna try since you have to plug it in...i thought maybe it would be easier to smoke with when i'm on the beach at the river... if it had a battery power it might be good for the river...but plugging it in would mean i need a extension cord and thats too much hassle...looks like i will have to deal with QL's while on vacation :-(

That just sounds like it'd cost way more money in the long run too. In terms of your electric bill. Things that create a lot of heat tend to cost the most to run.

That would be a very bad idea. I have two and they are dirty enough, even sitting on the foil. I can just imagine the crap buildup if they cooked directly on the tobacco.

Kwikwi,
How well do they work? You must like them if you have 2?

mr.bungle has a video on his use with the electric coal, he said one was not quite as hot as he would like it to be, that two would be better.
Maybe directly on the tobacco would be fine since it has a temp control anyway.
the whole point of the foil is not to prevent ash, whoever told you that is mistaken, its to create indirect heat and bake the tobacco rather than burn it.

I've heard way too many stories of those electric coals blowing up,tipping hookahs, shorting out,the ceramic part cracking and even blowing up, and just overall bad expieriences that will prevent me from ever buying one lol!

blowing up is new to me... it just doesn't produce the heat needed for a good session. in other words... it sucks monkey nutts..

and now I would like to appologize for all users of the electric coal that do like them. The oppinion stated above is that of my own.

They work well actually. Similar in size to an Akhla 35mm coal. and about as tall as two stacked. Using two on a medium funnel gave me similar session's to running two 33m 3Kings, without the time limit of course. I had better luck with them than MrB did but then I use two at a time. Only reason I don't use them much is they are a pain in the ass to set up on a tall rig. I had to tape the cords of the stem of my KM to make sure they didn't pull off the top.
