Default Flavour quickly dissipates

What's the best way to keep the flavour strong?

We always seem to get a good smoke for 15 mins or so and then it goes to flavourless smoke. It doesn't taste like the tobacco is burning, but a little bit ashy.

We have a cheap Egyptian hookah with a Vortex bowl and a Nammor hose. We use genuine Al Fakher tobacco and Coco Nara coals.

We tend to use three coals on double foil. And most of the time we keep the wind cover off so the smoke doesn't get too harsh. We put it on to get the coals glowing red if they look like they're going out.

We want the effortless smoke with big clouds and amazing flavour. We do get it sometimes but it doesn't stay around for long enough!

either purchase a phunnel, or a vortex bowl. the design in both hold the flavor in much longer

how do you pack the shisha?

how do you pack your bowl and how many coals do you use... sounds like a heat management problem.

As I said; I already have a vortex bowl and we use three coals.

I've try packing it lightly or tight, but normally somewhere in the middle. Always away from the foil though, to keep it from burning. What's the best way to pack it?

We are planning on getting a KM hookah at some point soon but wondered if there was anything we could do to keep the flavour for longer in the mean time.

try putting smaller holes in the foil but more of them. 3 coals sounds about right. also try mixing the tobbacco in the pack 1st to make sure it is nice and wet. otherwise try a new rig

Yeah that's pretty much the only bit left to upgrade. We're looking for a nice KM hookah to buy.

This is the best pic I have of the cheap hookah:

The best way to get flavor out of anything including food is to cook it properly.
For a good steak you sear the outside before you cook the inside. Chicken on the grill does really nice slow cooked.
This is the same for tobacco. Certain tobaccos you should start off by burning the heck out of them, and others you should slow cook. Part of the fun of hookah is figuring these combonations out.

i would try mixing it in the bag to get it moist again and smaller holes i find that a toothpick makes the perfect size holes

sometimes happens to me when i chain as i my mouth gets used to it but after abut 5 minute break i can taste it again otherwise it could be becuase all the flavour has dryed out or ash is falling into the flavour this can be avoided with smaller holes i like to use a pin.

I'm pretty sure it's caused by charring the top of the tobacco, which leaves a crust across the top so none of the flavour can vaporise.

I think we're trying to get it hot too quickly. Tonight we're planning on leaving the coals to warm up the bowl for at least 10 minutes before smoking. Hopefully that helps

BTW Have you tried a Vortex bowl?
I'd say use the windcover and cut back to two coals.

This is going to sound a little crazy, but do you have a ball bearing? I had a friend buy a hookah once from the local lounge, and hers had the piece for a ball bearing, but the ball was missing. Once we found out and plugged the hole, her hookah worked a billion times better than it had.
