Lightbulb Universal Rating System

I couldn't find a post before on this, so mods let me know is I am beating a dead horse, as that is illegal in my state.

I have been watching and reading reviews and decided it is so hard to summate a product or flavor with so many people using their own arbitrary rating system. One member's 7 may be another member's 10. And some members humorously give every single shisha they smoke a 10.
What is everyone's thought on a universal rating system.
I realize that opinion are important and add personality to a review.
So of course a review still has some bias but at least a universal system would make it easier for new smokers and elites alike to sum up a product.
So what are the thoughts of Hookahpro members??

I haven't thought too much about the actual scale but my initial thought are something like this:

A- I would buy a kilo and eat it for breakfast every morning!!
B- I would purchase 250g to smoke once a week
C - I would buy a 50g box to smoke when in the mood
D- I would use for parties with people i don't like
F- I would rather smoke grass clippings

With a similar scale for products and accessories

Just a thought which would also make it easy to average out ratings for a brand or at least give us all a better idea of how much someone liked or disliked something.

What do you guys think??

I like the concept, not great as is though. "A" being not realistic and just overall the increments need improvement, but the concept is ok. I'll give your idea a "D"--meaning I only answered it because its 2:30 in the morning and there's nothing else to do. lol

HAHA
Yeah i was hoping to stir up some ideas because A-F doesnt have enough of a gradient but 1-10 is so standard and seems to be status quo.
Might be harder to adopt if we use something like 1-10
Trying to think of another set of symbols that follow a progressive order.
Maybe just add more letters for a wider scale??

^^ Well really if you think about it, a 6/10 is an F (60%) so you wouldn't want to smoke that anyways. Plus you can think about +/- in addition to a letter grade. In the end though, both are arbitrary and have the same meaning.

I say we use a shape/color grid.

For example:

If I give a shisha a Green Circle, then it is absolutely amazing. Whereas if it got a Red Triangle, it is completely horrible. Something like a Yellow Square would be somewhere in the middle.

I think the shape/color grid is the best universal rating system that we could implement in order to avoid confusion.

I fully support the color system. I'm a musician not a mathmatician. I don't do number and a simply traffic light formation would suffice :/

On a side note, this thread made my day

Uhh, a crude system of both shapes and numbers as compared to a simple number system everyone since birth can understand. No thanks.

I like it. I use kind of the same thing but mine is like school grades so it's an "F" instead of an "E" and I do use minuses and pluses so I can have in between grades too. I probably need to stop giving everything such high grades though because it seems like everything I rate is a "B". I've had a few C's and A's but not as many B's lol. I might start using this! Good idea for a scale again!

That is the point of the system. No one member is the same as another. And any other system would be the same as a 1-10 in end results. One members C would be another members A in your example system.

I apparently in my late night haze put E instead of F which makes more sense.
THe addition of pluses and minuses would add an extra range of scores and personal opinion!
I just got my Halzone and I give it an A+
It is gorgeous.

I realize the alphabet rating system is not new
I was referring to an established definition of what each letter might mean.
That is what I was having trouble inventing.
It needs to be simple yet descriptive enough so that everyone would use it to improve our members ability to decipher the reviews in the forum which in my opinion are amazing and shows all the hard work our members put into this site!
HookahPro rocks.

I still like your system and agree with you. I guess I really never told people what my system ratings mean. I might do that, and probably use your scale, in my review I do tonight.

A nice, insightful comment, but no thanks. I'll stick with my 1-4 aces system. I went to it because I felt that a 1-10 system had way too many variables to tell me the same thing. No need to break it down into such small increments. When I review a tobacco i rate it on 4 qualities. Cut/aroma/juiciness (one quality), dyed or not dyed, smoke cloulds, flavor. I combine the first three qualities because to me, they are minor qualities compared to the other three which have they own category for rating. 4 aces=Awesome, rates highly in all 4 qualities, 3 aces=Good, rates highly in 3/4 qualities, 2 aces=Fair, rates highly in 2/4 qualities, 1 ace=Bad, rates highly in 1-0/4 qualities. The rating is dependent on the commentary with the review, since all reviews are subjective to begin with. For me, this system covers all of the bases necessary for a simple yet understandable method of providing a subjective analysis of the subject. Smoke happy.

I'm going to start rating tobacco like Roger Ebert.

Thumbs up- I like it

Thumbs down- Isn't up to snuff

Simple, effective, easy to understand, not complicated.
