Simple, effective, easy to understand, not complicated.

Just 1 thumbs up? Why not 2 thumbs up? Or you could do 10 thumbs up and replace thumbs with stars?

The problem I've come across is this:

If I rate something out of ten points, and I dock it one for being dyed, one for being too juicy, one for price, and one for having an off smell in the package, it's down to 6 out of 10 points, which to me is a failing grade... However, I know tobaccos (Fumari Fakfakhina comes to mind) that I would knock points on all of these factors but I still love it.

To me it comes down to the ultimate question: Would I buy this again?

yeah I'v found the same problem, so what I started doing is knocking them down by half a point.

That works I guess. I just wanted to make things simpler instead of more complicated.

To me, having an X out of X score becomes arbitrary, because it hit me that resmokability is the only real important factor to me.

See, the rating system (for shisha) alone isn't enough to help anyone else out. I started a thread asking if anyone had some nakhla DA they wanted to sell on the same day that another member said they would give it to the first person who asked for it. It comes down to having similar tastes in shisha as the person doing the reviewing.

I agree, X out of X is arbitrary. And why is it out of 10? Why not out of 5? Why not out of 523? Would an 8 out of 10 not be the same as a 4 out of 5?

I personally don't like number rating systems. Could be because I don't like numbers. Like I seriously have a thing against numbers. I'm bad at estimating distance or time or anything like that.

So for me, a rating system is as simple as "I don't like it", "I like it", or "I friggin' want to make love to this!" Simple as that.

Then again, each person has their own system that works for them. So there's no real way to create a universal rating system.

Although if there was a way, I still suggest the shape/color grid!

I love dusty's reviews cause he is very consistent and the aces work great!!
Plus he gets to use those sweet AF playing cards!!
I like the ratings that had fewer variables because they make you make a more concise decision about a flavor.
Coyotero's thumbs might even be a good idea!
I definitely agree that the simpler the better.
I do think though the downside the free shisha reviews is that you lose the element of price. If it comes down to buying a product often people will change their minds when it comes to spending their hard earned money.
So using a rating on what you would purchase seemed to be relevant also!
It is great to hear everyone's thoughts!
that is why this community is great!

I personally have not used a scale, just my verbal opinion on the product. People what to know what you have to say, like this shisha is wet or dyed is all good. Telling them you dont like that is obviously just stating opinion, and not fact. what you dont like someone else might like, at which point your scale is dead to that viewer. talk about the product, any major faults it has, but to base a numerical scale on your opinion might turn people off. and to try and make a universal scale sounds good for continuity, but even wit one people are always gonna be different, so I do not see how one would, or even should work.
