Default Do you guys think these coals would work?

I've been wondering for a while if Royal Oak natural wood coals would be alright to use in a hookah. These coals are really light, being natural wood and as the name suggests there more then likely made of oak.

I was only considering using these types of coals, no1. there really cheap about $5 something for a 10lb bag, and no2. the only places I've found around hear that sales shisha and coals are head shops which are kinda pricey and only sale the cheap stuff.

Well, does it say it is used for HOOKAH? eeek if not...don't use it!

Hehe don't take your chances...even if it says natural wood charcoal. Charcoals that are not made for hookah can make you sick or even worse...It can make you get CO poisoning. Only stick to coals that are made for hookah!

Thanks for the response Jill, I was having my doubts about using them. Glad I asked first. I had remembered someone saying they had used charcoal they had made at home from twigs and stuff they had found in there back yard. Looks like the only way I'm going to be able to get anything decent is to order. if anyone knows some shops in the Anniston/Oxford AL, area let me know. I hate ordering something and the shipping cost more then what I'm ordering. -_-

actually its fine to use any coal on your hookah to a point. you dont want stuff like processed BBQ coals like kingsford. if it is truly bulk charcoal it is fine to use on your hookah. romman coals are nothing but bulk charcoal put into 1kilo bags and sent out. it is bulk charcoal because i got a chunk bigger than both my fists, was just a big chunk of wood charcoal which was unprocessed, was the trunk basically.

It causes brain damage, cardiac arrest, comma, and asphyxiation. Ultimately any one of these or combination can lead to DEATH.

You are right, it won't harm you. Keep up the great research!

Coals made for the hookah (in particular finger coals) are cheap enough that risking it with questionable coals isn't very smart. Get some Exoticas or Coco Naras (from what I've read) and don't worry about whether they will kill you or not.

As long as they are all natural coals with NO ADDITIVES,

they should work fine

+1 to austin
and also these effect FURsakeN mentioned are all correct but the amount of CO needed to cause those is about 100x more than you can get from hookah. I've had CO poisoning before. It gives you a terrible headache and upsets your stomach and makes you feel a bit sleepy. after an hour your are completely fine and you know that the coals you just used are not good for hookah.

I gotta say, you should really just stick to coals that are "MADE FOR HOOKAH USE" ... I won't confuse you with what you can and can't use. But why risk it? Just stick to something that you know is specifically MADE for USE with a HOOKAH! Try to stick with natural coals, such as Exoticas, Al Hambra Olive Wood, Romman Lemonwood, etc ... the reason I say stick to coals "MADE FOR HOOKAH USE" is so as not to confuse someone who doesn't know the difference between natural coals and additive coals.

Yeah dont chance it. Even if it does work, it could impart a taste to your smoke and that may not be good.

Well, I gave it a try. The charcoal wasn't half bad. These are all 100% natural Charcoal and the taste they left wasn't no where near as much as thee kings leaves. The only prob I had was I couldn't keep them lit. Once I did have them going they produced a lot of smoke almost nun if any taste and nun of the smell that three kings give off.

You might use coals not made specifically for narghiles and be just fine. BUT the chances are that if it's made for something else you'll get CO poisoning and wind up dead, brain damaged, comma or at best passed out. PLEASE don't risk it!

The truth is that people get CO poisoning all the time using coals made for use with narghiles because they either don't get them fully lit or (more often) they suck hard for far too long making clouds the size o truck tires. The long term damage of moderate CO poisoning can be serious and if you get sick, et headaches or pass out when smoking CHANGE THE WAY YOU SMOKE.

You don't want your coals to produce any smoke when you start them if you do you are most certainly putting yourself at risk.

yea.. not worth the risk to save a few bucks. i've heard that natural coals with no additives are okay, but you say that these smoke when fully lit...

that sounds bad..

I should have specified, these coals produce a lot more smoke form the Shisha then when I use three kings. The actual charcoal never smoked at all. I've seen natural hookah charcoal up close and theres really no differents how this looks then the stuff that was made specifically for hookah use. I really don't see how these are any worse then instant lights that has excessive amounts of Potassium nitrate that is poison?
