Default Phunnel Bowl help

im kinda new to hookah. I dont really understand how a phunnel bowl works. is there a special thing about. someone i think Jillyisjustkidding drew a diagram with a bunch of dots on it but i didnt understand it. my bro is gonna attempt to make me one in his ceramics class so i can see how well it works, if its that much better than a regular bowl idk. so if someone could please tell me how it works and what it should look like that would be grat thanks.

Careful making one in ceramics class. For one, the clay shrinks when you fire it. Second, you need food grade glaze, its not really worth it. Besides, you dont even know how it works, why do you want to make one?

i like the idea of making one, but so many variables go into making it and fitting, let alone able to be smoked out of, cause of the glaze. Honestly as cheap as it would be to create one i would go for one thats professionally made and will be guaranteed to work on the hookah

Here is a lil Diagram (IMPROVED) cuz the last one was pretty crappy! lol

this is the RINGS setup on the foil

Well, there is a big hole in the middle while your shisha is around this hole. This means the juices won't leak down your stem and you get wayyy more flav and the session will last a lot longer.

Well, ya gotta understand, it is fun for someone to make things outta clay! I use to take pottery and really enjoyed it. If I was still in the class, I would be making my own custom bowl right now too!

I say, do it man!

And Jilly's picture is pretty much spot on! Just a little less holes on the outside and a little bit smaller dimension on the outside holes .. is how I set up mine.

What chap slap needs is the shape of the bowl.

Thats rayvers video and at 2.45 you can see the phunel bowl. The only hole is the elevated one on the middle and the part where the shisha goes has no holes. Its about 8 inches Diameter and 1/2 inch deep.
Here is a pic that show it from varius angles

I have a quick question about phunnel bowls. Might as well do it here rather than make another topic. but.... How many coals would you use for a medium bowl. I use jap. coals, but it what about the others too?

Hmm well, I've seen people use about 3-4 since it is a big bowl. But, it may get too hot for some brands so maybe a lil less.

Hey Chap Slap I didnt tell you you didnt know how to make one, I asked you why you wanted to make one when you didnt even know what it is or what it does or how it works. I also gave you very good advice on food grade glaze and shrinkage due to firing. Your quote is in red below. But what the hell do I know, go ahead and make one, doesnt matter much to me. But when you ask for suggestions dont get your feelings hurt when you dont get the answer you dont want to hear.

so if someone could please tell me how it works and what it should look like that would be grat thanks. I dont really understand how a phunnel bowl works. is there a special thing about.

It works by making the shisha juice pool in the bowl instead of escape through the holes and run down the stem. The juice then is able to steam and the tobacco keeps its flavor more intense and longer. The other thing it does is force air into the tobacco and up through the center hole.

I thought you don't poke holes in the center of a funnel bowl. Am I wrong?

Some people do to supposedly keep the foil from "sucking" the foil down in the center.

If you aren't using a mod, it is a good idea to poke one over the middle, to let some air in, so the foil doesn't suck down over the top hole.
