I've never had a issue with three kings. Ive had one coal that really changed the smoke, and I think that was because it popped a few minutes into the session, and well, that called for a re-pack and re-do. But other than that my three kings have smoked about as good as my bag of lemon wood coals has.

In all seriousness I can usually use high quality QL coals without a problem. I use CH qls a lot. now that said if I have run one set of natural coals and then try to use QL for the next set I always notice the flavor of the chemicals more. It's a matter of relativity. If you just use QL for the seeion then you will not notice.

In all honesty, I have not noticed the Difference Between QL and naturals, I use QL more because they're easier, Nothing of a huge flavor difference for me, Just they smell funny when your first lighting them.
I've only had issues when I'm the one that hasn't prepared the bowl and coals.

Maybe Im weird because i almost always start with exotica coals then when they go out i light up a quick light, for me once that initial good smoke wheres off the quicklights have no major effect on the flavoring thats left and i dont have to wait ten minutes more to keep smoking. I only use golden coals as well. I tried 3 kings once and wasnt impressed. SOEX and Dojo quicklights were some of the worse coals ive ever tried. So maybe its all in the brand.

well south africa dont get no natural coals. iv asked many tobaccoshops and small hookah vendors. too expensive to import the stuff. so i have a choice of soex, starlight, some dodgy other makes and wood i burn till they make coals(which i aint doing every night). I bought this other QL the otherday which makes absolutely no ash, its like a piece of concrete, no dodgy taste and lasted 1.5hours. With my experience if i light the QL outside, wait for it to fully light, then pop it on it smokes fine, and except for soex coals i dont get any after taste.

Beggars cant be choosers...

I really did just call John at CH and ask him to change my order from qls to naturals.
Apparently there's a taste difference that I'm missing, I shall see!

I use three kings coals. No problems with them whatsoever. The smell from the lighting is bad, but goes away when it's fully lit. I usually light coals outdoors anyway.

No complaints here.

The way I look at it is: If I'm smoking one pack, use a quick light. If I'm smoking multiple, I go with the naturals

I'm with Dunkel on this one.

QL's are pretty much all we have available here in my country (and these aren't even good quality QL's) but since I started buying proper natural coals from the US I couldn't be bothered with QL's anymore. They taste like sh**!

After trying a few different brands of both naturals and QL's I stumbled onto CH coals and they're all I'll use now. They have no noticeable odor (except when lighting, of course), a good lifespan, and are cheaper than most other respectable brands
