Talking DIY Coffee Can Windcover

Now, I know I've seen this somewhere, so I do not take full credit for this. Full props to whomever first created this. This is my attempt.

Materials:

two tall aluminium coffee cans
electrical tape (optional)
epoxy
Tools:

can opener
pliers
dremel (optional)
First, cut off the bottom of your coffee cans. This looks like a job for your can opener. I recommend saving one of the bottoms, you'll see why in a minute. [careful of sharp edges!]

Now, there are probably many ways to affix two coffee cans efficiently, especially when you don't care if it's airtight. I chose to cut four small slits around the top of one of the newly created tubes, so that I could bend the top parts a little and slide the other can on top.

The "handle" is that leftover bottom of the coffee can that I told you to save. I folded it in thirds, then bent it a little and tucked it into the seam of the coffee cans.

Meh, Could have done it all better. But it worked. In fact, it probably would have held together without the epoxy. At any rate, the next step was to hit the corners with a couple of small "J-B" welds. Two part "steel" epoxy, good on engines and in high heat situations. Not that this wind cover really heats up.

It seemed a little bit too open at the top and I felt like too much heat would escape. So I bent the corners in on the top can. And I Dremel-ed a couple small holes in the sides near the top. Why not.

(not pictured) (optional) Wrap the sharp handle in electrical tape.
Finished. Maybe. It's an experiment.
Enjoy

10.5 inches tall, ~3.8 inch diameter. Each can was ~5.5 inches tall, and I overlapped slightly. Here you can see I changed the handle a little. Bend to your liking.

And it works! I can use fewer coals with this bad boy on and still get some thick, smooth smoke. Also great for when the coals are getting near the end, it keeps heat in quite nicely.
