Default Help for a beginner

I'm smoking out of a 30 inch egyptian with the standard bowl that came with it and I'm wondering if you guys have any tips on how many coals I should use for Al-Waha. I have golden QL's. Thanks

3 one half pieces should be ok. spread'em out and keep 'em on the outer edge of the bowl and move'em as needed. If you use a wind cover you could get away w/using less coal.good luck

of course, this all depends on the size of your bowl. If your using a clay "al masri"(egyptian), then you could bump it down to 2 pcs.

Probly two halves should do ya. If that's not good enough, add a half. Experiment and find what works best. Its also different if you're using a wind cover.

Please remember, that when using QL's, ALWAYS light them outside, and let the igniter burn off completely, before placing them on the bowl. I prefer a wind cover, because I only smoke outside. The wind cover helps "focus" the heat directly on the bowl. I suggest you try with one coal at first, directly on the center of the bowl. You can add more coals as you like.
