Default Smoke taste

I have a question. Every time i see hookah videos they all talk about how they can really taste the flavor of the shisha. But when I smoke "All ive had so far is fruity flavors" its all just a fruity taste. ive had melon, mango, kiwi etc. and none of them have a real melon or mango or kiwi taste. I clean my hookah after each use. Could it be my tobacco? I've been using Havana tobacco because thats all the local shop has and I haven't ordered any from any online stores yet. Any feedback would be great, thank you.

what does it taste like? Is it like a burned flavor? does it get too harsh? you might be overheating/burning your shisha.

Too much heat maybe, like Rex said. You gotta find just the right way to heat the shisha so you can obtain both nice smoke and nice taste. Havana's not bad by the way. It could also do with the type of coals you're using.

yeah the coals if not lit correctly can impart a bad flavor from what I have read on here. I am using quick lights right (jap coals) and I dont see a problem with them, but I have Exoticas on the way (should be here today along with some Starbuzz goodness )

try different brands. if you're getting the same fruity flavors, i would suggest:

fantasia pink lemonade
nakhla chocomint
starbuzz blue myst
tangiers green apple

this should be quite a mix of flavors - each unique - for you to try

i have the problem of a lot of al waha tasting the same to me...

Also try other things in your bowl. Try to enhance your flavor with additional flavor in the liquid department. Also work on heat management. Heat management is numero uno in smoking out of a hookah.

To be honest, I've never really tasted the flavors very strongly either. I've always gotten a hint of flavor, and there are certainly brands that have stronger flavors than others. I think this is why I prefer mint flavors over the fruits, because the mint is always super flavorful for me. And, usually, when I cut another flavor with mint, I'm able to pick up the fruit better. I donno why, but that's been my experience for a long time now.

I love that Mouthwash effect of when you breathe in air as you would after a menthol cigarettes or a mint in your mouth. Mmmmm so good!

Maybe I've grown too accustomed to mint, so now the flavors of the others are just off in my brains? I always buy it, and always mix it with everything. I'm gonna start trying the woody/floral smokes next time I get new shisha, see if there's a difference in my palette.

If you want a really noticeable taste I've seen orange be the most in closest to actual flavor due to it being so common of a scent and taste in everything.

Out of Al-Waha Molasses brands Strawberry, Banana, Two Apple, Watermelon ... The only four iv tried atm, i would have to pick Watermelon to be the closest to actual flavor out of all four.

Next ill have to try Mint

There a lot of different brands out there, and the flavoring comes through differently with different brands. I suggest that you keep only enough heat on the foil, to produce moderate smoke. If you burn the hell out of it, the flavor disappears.

I agree, I always go for "quality" over "quantity" ... just enough heat to produce flavorful clouds

Also quick question, couldn't he save more on coals by using a screen? Doesn't a screen increase heat due to it being metal and become hot very easy. Then throw a windcover on there and you should be set right? I have only smoked with a screen once and that was at least 2 years lol. I'm debating on buying one just to see how it goes and see if I use less coals.
