Default Exotica or Coconara?

This is prolly gonna be a heated discussion lol (no pun intended) but what do you think are the better natural coals? Exoticas or Coconaras?

Exoticas I know are a crowd favorite here but do you think the coconut based ones can take top of the chart?

LETS START! lol

Personally all ive tried are exoticas, all the talk here influenced me to buy them, and i must say as much as i love them, im kinda unimpressed with them... Dont get me wrong here I love them. but the splintering and cracking issues (which were taken care of with the new formula) and the fact you have to practically break them with your teeth are kind of a set back... Perhaps make prefabed ones in the future?

i just tried some coco naras and they are alright coal. they dont impart flavor and the exoticas did a bit.

my problem is that the side you put on the bowl dies instantly and a lot of heat is lost so either youre constantly flipping them over or youre using more than you really need.

for the price id stick with exoticas (or golden canary japanese coals which are 10 bucks at a market here). if coconaras were 10 bucks a box instead of 16? i'd probably get them but as of right now, im not made of money

I use Exoticas and have some Cocos on the way. I have had no flavor alteration from the Exoticas and they do last around an hour a piece. The Cocos are pretty good from the reviews I have read in the review section so I can't wait to try them out.

The reason ive been using coco naras recently is for a few reasons.
1. no breaking apart required, they are the perfect size.
2. unlike scoop, i've never had a heat problem with them. they last around an hour to hour and fifteen mins.
3. I use 2 on a standard egyptian and im set, rather than using 3/4 of a stick of exotica.

just my .02

I usually use exoticas and have never had a problem with them. I've also tried coconaras and they are pretty solid as well - they last a really long time. However, I have the same problem as scoop in that for the first half or more of the session, they seem to get cold on the side touching the foil very quickly. Also they leave a very fine ash, and when i smoke inside i tend to get the ash all over the place. Personally, I'll probably stick with exoticas in the future.

I love exoticas. My only complaint is that I usually don't make many onlnr orders so I buy from a shop here and I'm sure their box of exoticas are dinosaur old. Plus highly over priced.

I have both..... but I use Cocos...

Exoticas are a great coal dont get me wrong, but they are a hassle to break apart and are very messy when you touch them, and its hard to get them the size you want them

It is true Cocos die out on one side. Thats why you cut them in half when you get them... it takes like 3 min with a knife and pressing on it to cut them in half... Once you do that they are the best coal and they stay hot and still last for a long time

Hope this help

Yeah.... If you cook them on both sides and keep a consistent amount of air going through they stay lit for an hour +

While they get black on the side touching the foil, I haven't actually had one "go out" on me. It still glows when I take a drag off the hookah, just gets black because the foil is cooler than the coal. I just flip them when I rotate them around the bowl and it all evens out

the only reason i would ever take exoticas over cocos is that exoticas are much less expensive. But, cocos last signficantly longer, and are less of a hassle to prepare. The exoticas will light faster, but when you consider the pred and clean up time, i am sure it works out to be roughly the same.

I definitly say Cocos, of those two... but i would say CH coals top both. They are roughly the same as cocos for a fraction of the price.

I just tried this out the other night. Has some Tangiers going in my small phunnel, and I started with 2 whole cocos. Was taking a bit to get going, so I add my windcover.. it was going pretty decent, and then I read about someone cutting cocos on another forum, and was like.. hell lets try it. so I added 1 coco, cut in half, took off the windcover, and had the best session I'd had in a while.. Great big dense clouds, and tons of flavor.

I'm going to try cutting the 2 cocos in half to begin with, and start with 3 halves..

I did notice they didn't go black as easily as a whole does.

Oh, and when I did try exoticas, while I did like they burned constantly, I didn't like the HUGE amount of ash from these things.. it was ridiculous.. cocos do have a fine ash, but there is not a lot. That and exoticas frickin' stink when you light them. Makes me wonder what the hell is in them.

As most already know I am a huge Coco fan. But most people don't know that when a coco is cut in half its the best coal around. Take a knife and saw through the top layer and then press down and it splits. I never have a problem with heat management. I also prefer the sandy ash because it seems like it so minimal.
