I haven't actually used the black box ones, but my friend had them and he recommended them. So I'd give em a shot.

I've had Sultan (black bow w/ Blue lettering) but according your decription, it's the "Easy LItes" (black w/ red lettering). Never tried them, but would be willing to try - just to see, they always run cheaper on sites than the Sultan's i get locally, but I've never seen them in town (and I tried to get one store to buy some).

I use those all the time (which reminds me i need to restock) they're:
-Fairly easy to start (Just throw then on a grill grate over my gas stove)
-Little to no charcoal taste
-Burn nice and hot
-And, with my windcover on, last a good long time

I always throw three or four on a bowl of Layalina and I'm puffing majestic clouds in no time

I used some last night, and confirm that these are some good Japanese Easy Lite coals.

Don't be confused by the term "Easy Lite" as opposed to "Quick Lights" they are two totally different styles. The "Easy Lite" requires a blow torch, stove top, butane lighter ... and take a few minutes to get going. While the "Quick Lights" require a match and then watch the fireworks!

I prefer the Japanese Easy Lites over the Quick Lights, I keep both on hand depending on the setting I am in when smoking hookah.

Hope that makes sense, to those that may not have known the difference...

Cheers!

You all know my well documented opinon on these coals.

Bloody amazing

But with the change in shipping costs, I am sorry to say that I doubt i will be ordering many more. Maybe.

I personally love them. And another product you might want to offer with them is a culinary torch. The torch is perfect for lighting them wherever you are and is the perfect size for traveling too.

I hear they are great but I've never used them. I use 3 Kings although I understand natural coals are better but the truth is that I'm too lazy to do the work needed to use them. I guess if if I was ordering other stuff and needed coals i'd give them a try.

Ordered some more last night from mnh. Along with my fav tobacco.

Shame that i can't afford super-fast-testostorine-filled-shipping. But 10 days isn't that bad

I can't stand these coals -- they burn and taste nothing like the real Japanese kind. They burn way too hot, have a noticable taste, and ash too much. When I ran out of quicklites I tried to use these as a substitute to hold me over and it ended up not even being worth it. I went without hookah for a few days until my new shipment of quicklites came in. It's always puzzled me how so many people can enjoy these

Eh, maybe you got a bad batch? I've had several boxes and the only wayi ever taste coal is if I put it on to early.

They smell a tiny tiny bit when first lighting, but i smell more of the lighting source than the coals most of the time. Mine last a good hour before they are dead. They dont ash to bad for me. I can knock off the ash and keep on smoking.

When they get really small like in the last 10 minutes of the smoke, they become very brittle and will fall apart, but in the last 10 minutes you can either throw on a new set of coals, or move them in the middle if you're just about done for the night.

jmo though

EDIT* I CANT SPELL WORTH A DAMN.
