If these coconara's are so great I might have to order a box from the website. I am skeptical though, I don't think they will deter me from Exoticas.

hey abu, what do you use to light your coals? I ask because I have a hot plate (not the one with the coils) and it takes nearly 20 minutes to light coconaras. These things have the longest lighting time of any coal I've ever used.

I have an electric stove. It works extremely well. Most coals tend to take about 5 mins or less.

im starting to think coco-nara give off a taste. now that i ran out, i can definitely tell the flavor of the bowl seems to be different. whether it was good or bad i cant tell, it seemed alright at the time. but definitely a completely different very specific not overpowered taste in the background. i dont have a sensitive palate and i was able to notice this

i swear, there was a flavor, very weak but still there.

To my the coco $12,99 pack with 84 pieces is not expensive at all that lets say around €8,50

I buy bad quality quick light 1 roll 10 pieces for almost €3 thats €4,70 now thats expensive

But how much cubes can you make out of a kilo bag of exoticas?

Well there are 25 sticks a kilo, and I cut mine into 1/4s, so 100 cubes. Coconaras I must say are more convenient because they are already cut.

my exotica's have a gasoline taste to them. My coconaras have a wood taste to them if i don't flip them every 10 minutes. I'd take wood over gasoline...

lol. i've had that a couple times. I notice you gotta blow on them real good to get almost all of the ash off and you should be fine.

WHAT you are the only one I have ever read about having a gasoline smell to their exoticas. And you can't tell me that when you were a kid you didn't enjoy the smell of gasoline :P. I'm still waiting untill I can score some coconaras for cheap, I don't want to spend copious amounts of change only to be upset in the end.

I probably won't bother with coconara's. I think alot of folks got a bad opinion of Exotica's from the ad nauseam posts about a bad batch. So when Coco Naras came out people flocked to them. IMO they are too expensive. The Exotica's I have are great, I can't see Coco Nara's being that much better to warrant that price.

Coco Nara $14.95 before shipping for 84 pieces = 1lb 4 oz.
Exotica's $8.49 before shipping for 25 sticks that break into 100 coals = 2.2 lbs.

almost double the price. Some people have only gotten one good batch of Exoticas out of any box they've ever bought though, like me, so there's not much to base my trust in Exoticas off of. Even after Scoop's pictures of lighting the "New" Exoticas, i still saw cracks in the surface of the coal. I don't really want to use coals that can't even stay together with heat.

I personally pay for my CocoNaras because I find them that much better quality then Exoticas.

If Exoticas stop breaking when lit I would love to use them, i do hate cutting them, but what the hell, I am saving 6 bucks.

I am going to see about doing a review of these coals, I have tried another coconut coal in the past, and it was not bad, but it was big chunks, these seem more manageable, I am looking forward to trying them out ..
