Default Lighting Natural Coals on Glass Stovetop!?

I'm posting this here b/c i couldn't find a better place for it...my apologies to the admins if they have to clean up after me but....i know you can usually light your coals on a stove, but im staying at the folks for a week and they dont have a standard metal coiled stove top...instead the stove has ceramic grates that are too big to set coals on...my question is can i, or has anyone ever lit their coals on the small ceramic circular insert that is below the actual removable grate?

As in removing the whole glass top piece? I didn't even know it was possible, if I were you I wouldn't do it...sounds risky. I don't think you are supposed to heat anything underneath that glass, wouldn't want to ruin your parents' stove now would you? I would say buy a portable single coil burner for 10-20 bucks, it will help a lot in your travels.

Are you talking about on a gas stove? If so I don't see why not....

o you mean how you have the X shaped metal grates coming above, then you have a circle that the gas shoots out all the sides of? i think that should be fine

I went ahead and bought a little single coil burner from nazarhookah.com. You can pick one up there or at one of your local stores. IE. Home Depot might have em, kmart, walmart. They work great for cooking nats. If you are talking about the place in the middle where the fire comes out of then yeh it will be ok. I used to do it all the time when I had a gas stove.

OH! Did you mean Gas stovetop? sorry, I should have read the post more throughly. You can definately use a gas stove to light your coals, just hold the coal over the flame with tongs and be careful not to burn yourself.

if it really is a glass stovetop it would be those new magnetic stove tops? i dont think those will work.

you can get a hotplate or single coil stovetop to start coals. they cheap, they have them at walmart and target i think for like 8 bucks. like larry said, nazar has the same thing or similar

Glass tope stoves....Dont do it! You will destroy it. Get a little single coil burner from Wally World in the outdoor/camping section.

Just sit the coals so they are burning on the fire, you should be fine.
