Exclamation Freezing A Hookah Vase

Hey everyone. I had a question. I'm new and I know you can put the base in the freezer to make it cold. But can you add water so that it freezes in the base? I'm not sure if it would work and make it colder.

I wouldn't if I was you. Too many horror stories of vases breaking in the freezer due to heat shock. I'd just recommend sticking to putting crushed ice in the vase with the water. No risk in that one.

Yeah don't put the base in the freeze man. Ice cubes should do the trick.

Water, unlike most other materials, expands as it cools. It isn't thermal shock; freezing is a gradual and even process. The expanding solid within it, however, is an issue. Most hookah vases I would wager aren't made out of high-strength culinary or lab glass. If you could find one that claimed it was tempered, Pyrex, borosilicate, etc., it would probably be fine. Most plastics should also be okay.

Tempered glass is amazing stuff. I used to have a glass desk with a tempered surface. It could support the weight in the center of an 80+ pound CRT monitor along with various other odds and ends without issue.

Unless you have a "sheecool" please don't put your glass vase in the freezer. I just put ice and water in the base if I was a cooler smoke.

I put a simple coffee mug in the freezer with water in it and it shattered. I doubt the vase will fare any better.

only do this with a sheelcool, do not do this with glass.
i use ice once in awhile in the water and i noticed the other day my mz base was "leaking" water. It must have a hairline crack somewhere. I had to replace the base, not fun, cause the new base doesn't fit as perfect.

I've read on some website that you can put the base in the freezer but after I've heard of people on the forum breaking their base...I wouldn't do it. That's just wasting money you could be spending on shisha.

The only that involes my base and refridgerator/freezer is that sometimes after I put some water and ice in the base I will toss (not literally) it in the fridge to keep it chill whilst I wash out my stem and grommets and all that other business. I dunno if I am at risk here as it is only in there for 5-10 minutes tops, but I haven't had my base shattered. I still wouldn't recommend it though, I am taking my own gamble here.

depends on the size of the ice....but its a bad idea. the smoke will pass around the ice and youll get unfiltered hits. i would recommend against it defeats the purpose of using a hookah w/ water instead of a regular tobacco pipe

i can tell you from experience, cold in base, even ice is a risk. recently i shattered a bohemian base putting straight up ice in with everything room temperature. Scoop might be talking about me, but i dunno. point is cold is a risk, use caution

the ice chamber is nice, but even that is messed up on mine lol. It does make the stem pretty cold, i threw in enough ice to fill it and that stem stayed cold for 8 hours and ice lasted for a good like 3 hours. its very nice.

Here is a review of the only base I would even consider putting in the freezer!

If you want to put your base in the freezer, get one of those from John at ******* Hookah.

Cheers!

Wow. Didn't think I would get this many replies. But thanks for the information. Guess I won't be freezeing my vase anymore.

See, old posts are getting dug up by people other than myself. It would seem like something is going on here?

It's far from a new phenomenon. Necro posting will always happen. It happens a lot when people search for a subject and actually find something topical. That is why I stick to the new post function.

Yeah, when I woke up, i clicked hookah discussion and this was at the top of the list... With no new posts...

http://www.hookahpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44

Which led me to believe that the same thing may have happened with this thread.

That's because Tingels brought it back from the dead and it appeared under new posts.
