Default Porcelain Syrian and other new stuff

I thought that some here would be interested in checking out photos of my new porcelain Syrian narghile and a couple of other new items I put up on my photo gallery. All the photos are at: http://s281.photobucket.com/albums/kk230/HFlettner/
I also have some pictures of a typical Syrian head configuration and how I adapted it take Egyptian style bowls which what we all use.

I smoke out of everything I have regularly. The small speaker on the tripod has 16 Morel drivers that I use for testing room acoustic with some specialty software. The other speakers are all powered by vacuum tube triodes except the lower bass speakers on the ceiling which are run with balanced solid state stuff.

The tombac bowl is really huge although the photos don't show it and I only use it for tombac leaf. If you guys want to know about any of the narghiles just ask. Most of them have amazing stories behind them.

Ok, Hajo, that pink Syrian, where on God's green earth did you get a rig that pretty looking? The Isfahani.

Wait... all those Isfahani's.. I would strangle a bear at the end of a labyrinth with my leg cut off to get my hands on one of those.

Are they from lebanon??

Heya Easy, the Van custom does have a good story behind it. I was driving around in the Van region of Turkey a few years back with this German engineer and we got lost while looking to meet up with this local about a water treatment project that never went anywhere.

Anyway, while driving around lost we ran across this guy that had an ancient Lambretta 3 wheeled truck broken down in the middle of nowhere and covered in grey dust. He had a bunch of ceramic stuff he needed to get to some shop at a nearby town so we gave him a lift with a pile of his goods flooding out of the sides of our car and looking pretty comically. What happened is that we delivered his goods, saved his job and he showed us how to get to the town we were trying to find. When we parted ways he gave us the address of a cousin that he said we needed to look up.

We visited the cousin after the business we had was rapped up and the family was very grateful for the help we gave. The whole family was bunch of artisans and we got to watch them make the narghile while we had lunch and afternoon tea on shores of Lake Van. The decorations were added latter and we each got one.

The designs on it are influenced by the art of the later days of the Ghaznavid empire which was a big deal in the region from about the late 900s to the tail end of the 1100s. The designs are classic Islamic representations of wheat, water and soil and the continuity of G-d’s creation and I was told are sacred in inspiration.

The whole thing is made of cast brass coated with carved nickel if memory serves and it gives wonderful smoke although it is a bitch to clean.

Hi ZS, all the Ishfanis are from the province of the same name in Iran and I got them because they represent typical artwork for the region done with modern materials. They are solid brass and they give fantastic sessions. A lot of Iranian rigs are pretty similar to those found in Lebanon so that was good a guess.

Oh, ZS - check your email for a bunch of tunes I sen from my various musical projects.

The Isfahani3 is just amazing. I would love to have one like that, I bet it smokes like a champ.
What a great story about the Van Narghile, would be so cool if people where like that in the US, but it is rarely seen nowadays.

If you guys ever buy a rig with a Syrian style head you'll need to do the hose barb method I have pictured to use it with 95% of the bowls you can buy.

Great history its had ... That thing would be worth a mint years to come

It`s so enjoyable to look at an to think of the story that came with it and how it ended up in safe hands. .... just loving it

Thanks for the post up ... It`s seems that it`s in good hands, don`t ever sell it. I would be heart broken to sell such a thing.

Ahhh, Iran, i knew they were too intricate for anything NOT from the middle East. Those are the most gorgeous rigs I have ever seen without a doubt. You gotta tell me a way to get my hands on on of those...

And yes i got the tunes, and DAMN, did I enjoy them. As did the others who were listening. I replied to the email, and i'll do the other thing you suggested soon, I just wanna listen to them more.

Thanks for the input. Yeah that was a pretty great experience, I'll never forget drinking tea and listening to Turkish folk music with sounds of Lake Van in the background. Neat people and a cool time. Very nice memory.

I guess I can't see how you'd get that stuff without going to Iran. Basically the only thing I want now is one of those huge, solid brass deals the Turkmen make that weigh something like 10 kilos for just the stem. Those things are heavenly sight and like that they have brass tubes to smoke from rather then hoses.

I am very happy you enjoyed the tunes. Ethereal Omega and Amuck in the Ether are playing this weekend and we'll be trying out some new material to see how it does. It's a little weird playing live do to my face being as it is but no one else seems to mind so I guess it's just me making too much out of it.

If one can play as well as you can, or sing with such strength i don't think people would even care what you look like at the time. It may even be like "Hey dude, did see the singer's face??" - "Hell yeah man, what a bad-ass". Something along those lines.

Oh, someone asked about what this one cost: http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/Iranian1.jpg

Basically I got it for a case of Moxie Soda and giving this guy I meet at a coffee shop and pregnant wife a ride to the hospital. Pretty crazy story with a pick pocket and a bunch of other stuff. When I get some time i'll bang it out.
