Default Coal - Help Please :)

Hey guys ... I got a plastic bag full of natural coal today for ($10 Aus) from my local tobacconist. I`m a little confused and not really sure if it`s the right coal for smoking hookah. I was surprised when i opened the bag to find huge pieces of coal . The coal is so light and seems to let off little heat.

Can any experience hookah smokers please tell me if this is proper hookah coal.

Looks about right for natural style coal. Chunky pieces of broken wood. Any chance of a bag pic? It may not have been meant for hookah. But they look like they are supposed to. Check out Sambookas Youtube vid review of Al Hambra coals.

i kinda need some help too with charcoal, so i figured i'd hop into this post too. i have the jap easy lights made in china, and was looking for some lighting help. i use a bernzomatic torch on them for a while and only the edges burn red. do i keep going till it's all red, or stop and then blow on them for a while? also, is it totally necessary to blow or scrape off the silver coating? it makes such a mess. i'm thinking of switching back to QL like ahkla or 3 kings.

I got the coals in a normal plastic shopping bag about half full.

It looks small but there`s heaps of coal

Not the best pic tho

Wow, big bag that's for sure. Was hoping there would be a name on the bag. Like Scoop was saying. Break em into smaller pieces then heat them to fully red and try one again. Thanks for the pic though Eazyone23.

Make sure the coal is fully lit, all the way around, not just the side sitting on the foil.
I think the tobacconist might just have thrown 100% natural wood coal into a black bag to sell as hookah coal to make a buck.

Always try to tell it like it is .. believe you all deserve the best knowledge/opinion that I can provide (never falsified) ... I HAD to blow on the ash, just so you could see how it would react!

I noticed in your last pic, that cool isn't fully lit. Make sure they are fully lit before using. They do look like Al Hambra, do you know what kind of wood they are?

Cheers!

I hear ya on that one, I use el wady coals sometimes, their natural wood coals that come in various chunk sizes. They sometimes spark a lot when lighting and its very much a firework show. So as of three days ago I started using finger coals (naura or something), personally i like them better, there just not as cheap

Try to take a flathead screwdriver and tap the top of the screwdriver with a hammer to break em down into smaller pieces. You can take more of them this way and put em on top of the bowl with a windcover or homemade windcover. That will enhance the heat output.

I don't no what the hell they are ... All i can say is its the worst coals i have used so far. I can`t even get them to smoke up the shisha i have used up half of the coals in the bag, Then after handling the coal my face was covered in black finger marks from scratching my forehead plus it's ash flakes are insane they actually hovers in mid air and aim for your eye balls
