Default exotica issue (again)

Bought a new box of exoticas last week and I've noticed the same problem many of us encountered awhile back. Cracking and otherwise falling apart during lighting. anyone had a similar issue? I'de like to think this was just an isolated incident. Haven't had this happen in awhile!

My recent box has had the same problem. 1 out of every 4 sticks is alright but most of them just crack or crumble. Its really annoying when I try to ash the coals and move them.

Yes, this happens all the time. The lack of consistancy makes me wonder why these coals are so highly rated.

Where did Gabe disappear to anyway? He is the person to ask about these issues.
My last batch was this way as well.

I am having few problems with Exotica's as well. Sometimes they light really badly, or on occasions, split. But on the whole, its the best coal I tried.

I have had a few coals split in half, but that is about it. I really like these coals, I have yet to experience the crumble effect. Hope I never do!

This thread concerns me somewhat because I just ordered a box of Exotica's (together with a Nammor hose) from Hookah-Shisha (which cost me quite a bit because of international shipping) so I hope I don't have similar issues.

I want my first experience with Natural coals to be a good one.

I just bought a box of Exoticas, and I was planning on springing up a sneak-attack thread about how wonderful they now are. But they have completely irritated me one more time, and i just don't see the point in using them any longer. Maybe if he shipped them loosely packed with silica gel to absorb moisture? This is getting downright pathetic. It has to be in how they are designed, they are so smooth and so compressed...but so light and crappy feeling. I tried to cut mine into fourths, and by the time i finally got through the coal looked like a jagged crumbling over-hanging cliff.

You can still have a good experience with the exoticas. Just be real carful whe picking them up or turning them. Lightly rub them to get the ash off and do not just drop them on your tray. Even if they do crack sometimes, if you are gentle then you can keep them together most of the time.

the cracking isn't a bid deal to me, i throw them around and stuff...but when the "improved formula" was supposed to neutralize the problems and it doesn't...it means something is wrong or someone is lying.

This is funny since I have been reportingthis issue for a long time and was publicly flogged for doing so. Gabe basically told me I was personally attacking him and that his coals are far superior to anything and that theres no way they are splitting, crumbling or cracking.......Glad to see its not just me. Sadly I will continue to use my 3K QL's until I get off my dead arse and try some coconara's or Jap QL's or something else. I am a little gun shy about coals ATM so I stick to the QL's

I remember this. However, gabe claimed that the issue had been taken care of since then, and in fact for quite a while, they were working like a champ. Now suddenly, it seems the problem has returned.
And husky, I just got a sample of the coconaras from zen yesyerday and they are in fact as good as everyone claims. Lil pricey, however!

Cool beans abu ronin, I should go ahead and order some. The cost offset has to be better than Exotica's since you waste 1/3 of the box due to defective materials. At least my whole $$$ spent go towards useable product with coconara.
