Default grimey hookah

so last time i smoked about a week maybe, i left my hookah as is.
got lazy and didnt bother to clean it....
when i went today in my hookah room haha (an empty room in my basement which i keep all my stuff) i noticed the atrocities i commited to my KM

there was juice/molasses all over the ash tray and running down everywhere.
so i decided to clean it.... btw i kept all the water in.... stupid me!
when i pulled out the stem
there were what looked like bumps on the stem, i thought dirty stagnant water probably made mold grow on my stem....it was bumpy and slimy and sooooo gross
i cleaned all this off and scrubbed but there are those same bump things in the base of my hookah...my cleaning brush cant reach it and i dont wanna smoke till i throughly clean my hookah...

whats the best method you all reccomend to clean my hookah and get out these bumps/mold areas

should i use beer like in sambookas video or what

i already tried soap and water but it doesnt work

and its so gross looking at it so i definetly cant smoke it till i clean it or ill vomit thinking that its still in there( i have a weak stomach)

when my base gets all gross i put a medium pile of baking soda in the bottom then squirt some lemon or lime juice and it works pretty well due to the reaction...when it starts to foam up give it a little shake and there ya go

hes talking about the stem not base.... you might wanna let it sit in a warm water/lemon juice and baking soda mix for a bit and then take a scourge sponge to it to get it off

To get the vase, use crushed ice with coarse grain salt(do not add water). The salt binds to the ice to act as a brillo pad. Just swish the mix around in the vase until the mess is gone. Then just rinse. When I worked in food service we used this to clean all the coffee and tea stains from brew pots. Also salt works as an anti-bacterial so double effect. Then after that I suggest, as Scoop did, an alcohol as a disinfectant(to kill what the salt will not). You can use cheapass straight vodka, is what I use on when homebrewing. G'luck to you!

Thats the last thing you want your metal to come into contact with. That actually speeds up oxidation. Its great at freeing grime and oxidation itself. But if you don't coat it with any kind of oil or silicon after the bath it will corrode worse.

Back to subject, Do the baking soda and lemon juice bath, don't soak for too long. 5-10mins will work fine, make sure you rinse it out with plenty of fresh water.

I think he was talking about the salt and ice. I know in places where it snows allot and they put salt on the roads peoples' cars get all rusty because of it.

He was asking how to clean the vase, not the stem in my quote. Never did I say use salt and ice on the stem.

It allows oxygen to penetrate the metal.

Lemon juice and baking soda work just as well in the vase.

I wouldn't have guessed that one. Do all alcohols do this or only certain ones?

All. Now don't get me wrong, welders prep their work (mainly non-ferrious) with isopropyl alcohol. But the heat in turn burns away majority of the oxidation. Just using alcohol is asking for trouble with ferrious metals; i.e. steel, stainless, iron.

Also using beer and other such beverages is a bad idea, because of it's pH balances leans more towards highly acidic. Hence why using the lemon juice and baking soda is better, baking soda is a natural pH balancer.
Cleaning your hookah is always one thing, but understanding the metal is another. Know how the metal reacts to certain agents and it will last longer the most.

I trust Fursaken when it comes to metals, so I would take his advice and use the lemon juice and baking soda or something with those similar ph levels. I hope you get your bumps off man. I bet that is the last time you leave it unattended :P

Rubbing alcohol will clean it pretty well. It's what I use and it really clears it up.
