Default Aluminum Foil question

What is the difference between the aluminum foil sold specifically for hookahs and the readily available stuff in the supermarkets?

Do the heavy duty foils perform better than the lighter gage hookah foils?

I always suggest that people use the reynolds(or similar brand) heavy duty foil.
The hookah foil is usually too thin and not worth the $ overall.I mean, c'mon, we are all capable of tearing off a piece of foil! do we really need it done for us?!

No difference, except thickness.
Plus, its another thing to market for the lounges and lazy bastards.

I got a bunch of the pre cut ones for almost free (SUPER cheap in my package deal in Iraq) SO I use those, but once I run out, I wont be buying any more

I use some generic foil from the grocery store. Its not heavy duty, but not too thin. Works pretty well but I've never really tried anything else

I have always used 1 layer of Reynolds Heavy Duty foil. I rarely have a heat management issue, and I always chalk it up to either heat sensitive tobacco or I packed too much.

I have never used a pre cut hookah foil, but I was given a pack of them and they are too thin for me to ever use.

the foil that is only for hookah sucks. i used it a few times and every time i didn't enjoy the session. use heavy duty foil. it works the best.

You can get a lot more bang for your buck by using aluminum foil from the dollar store. I use Reynolds Wrappables and it is fantastic! One sheet can be ripped into 9 pieces and there are lots of sheets in a box.

The hookah foil they sell is for lazy people, or those that don't realize it is the same thing as store foil, just precut.

I've never used hookah foil, and consider it a stupid idea.
I use either standard (though high quality), or HD foil, depending on the shisha.

I just use Reynolds HD, not because it is thicker or it makes things easier although that is a contributing factor, but mainly because I can drive 30 seconds to a store that has it rather than ordering precut foils online and waiting for shipping. If one has trouble tearing foil they can use scissors :P

heavy duty foil would be your best bet. just because if you get it tight enough on your bowl you wont have to worry about it sagging from poking holes and from the heat/weight of the coal. plus its what, 3-4 bucks a roll? way more than is in a pre cut package.

plus i have always found that pre cut foil (and thin foil in general) sags and touches the tobacco

Thanks for the responses.

What I gather is aluminum foil is aluminum foil. The main difference is the thickness. Thicker foil works better to control heat and provide more stability for the coals to rest on.

Easy enough, Renyolds Heavy Duty roll purchased

As I said in my other post I use some genaric foil from the store and it does the trick, but the other day I cut a bunch of it up into squares and put them in a tub to use when I smoke. So if you want to have pre cut foil, cut it yourself! Haha

i have some hookah foil i got for free with my hookah and what i don't like about them is that you cant choose a size. For example, the foil is smaller than i would like it to be for the bowl that i use so i can't get a nice seal. I would stick with regular foil.
