Default ice chambers

i have been looking on getting a KM with an ice chamber like the on the rocks and i was wondering if the ice would melt if you put the coals on the ash tray or is there a barrier between the ice and the actual tray??

I believe the tray rests on the ice chamber. but because heat rises, it may not be a terrible problem.I don't own an ice chambered narghille, so am just assuming, of course.

I would imagine leaving coals on the tray would in fact melt some ice.But honestly, the only time i leave coals on the tray is if need extra heat to get something going, and then need to pull one off to maintain smoke. This doesn't happen too often however.

a coal tray is always a good idea.MNH has some nice ones. But honestly, it doesn't sound like your coals are on the tray long enough to make much of a dent in your ice.

using the tray to hold charcoal isn't a big idea.

aesthetically, the km trays turn brown and dull if you leave coal on them. with ice in the ice chamber, what ends up happening is condensation forms on top of the tray and will extinguish parts of your coal

true, I have an on the rocks and putting coal on the charcoal tray doesn't really add a noticeable amount of melt to the ice. another thing about it is as scoop said, the browning, which makes an odd brown condensation mark on it, but if you wipe it off with water after your session it comes off, probably a by product of a fizzing coal on the tray from the condensation.

while it might melts some ice, it would probably have the opposite effect -- it would cool down your coals. Go for the coal holder. Invaluable accessory, especially if you heat your coals in a different room than where you smoke

I've been thinking about getting a ice chambered KM...But I have been hearing its not really useful since the ice melts anyways. I have actally smoking from is KM and I didn't see a difference whatsoever.

Not only that, Eric, the inventor of Tangiers stated on another forum that the KM's quality has gone from top notch to crappy! Maybe their hookahs were so in demand that they couldn't afford to keep buying the good materials? who knows! I'm steering clear from KMs now :\
