Alright, everyone (with one exception) has been sent the samples and I expect that within a couple of days everyone should have them. In terms of smoking them I have a couple of suggestions. First, these are very traditional style jurak with no glycerine so don't expect huge clouds. Secondly, when you start smoking apply 4 or 5 pieces of coals then and then cut back to 3 bits once you get a decent amount smoke so as to not burn it. Rotate the coals frequently and don't forget to tamp off the ash every few minutes. Third, this stuff is unwashed so if you typically smoke candy you'll want to take it slower then normal. Lastly, Contentment is a complicated brand with a ton of flavours (many of which are subtle) so take the time to quitely smoke and pick out the flavours letting the smoke roll out your mouth and past your nose.

I received mine, and I also reimbursed Adam for the shipping cost.

They smell chocolatey, floral, spicy (cardamom i may say)... wow very good. Not unlike the previous samples aroma, but more complex as you stated. I am excited.

Traditional stuff like jurak does not have flavours as they don't use flavour essences like we are used to getting to simulate fruits, chocolate, nuts etc. Instead, old fashioned products like Contentment use high quality tobaccos of many different types which are blended, fermented, cured and aged to bring out a lot of different flavours that you won't find in crap products like ciggarettes. The molasses does add something of course but jurak is usually aged with extracts taken from a veriety of herbs and spices which add various aromatics and tastes.

The particular blend is usually named for a place where the comapny is from, a military leader/noble from times gone by or something having to do with poetry as poets have traditionally been big fans of the narghile. Someone should look up Shāhnāma and Daqiqi see what the blend refers to.

Thank you Hajo. Both samples arrived today. The aroma from these tells me I'm in for an incredible smoking experience.

Hajo, thank you and Adam for arranging the reception of Contentment samples to those of us who received them. I tried the S. sample this evening and it was absolutely amazing. It is definitely on its own tier of hookah tobacco. One question though, how would a guy like me get a hold of more of this stuff?

You are right. The Iranians are big into music and poetry and while I can't say it means a lot to me not knowing Farsi I can recognize epic talent when I see it. If anyone knows something about the topic it would be cool to hear about it.

We are both glad to introduce people to the joy of traditional smoking which is kind of hard once you leave the Middle East & India. When I first had it about 6 years back I was on vacation in Bandar-e Torkaman (near the Caspian Sea in Iran) for the Norouz (new year) festivities and I had it in a little cafe. I assume that Contentment is made somewhere nearby because it came wrapped in wax paper and string rather then modern packaging. From time to time I get a buddy that travels to the Middle East to pick up stuff for me like Al Buturī or al-Mutawakkil but unfortunately that sort of thing isn't really exported as far as I know so you basically have to go where it's made.

Hajo - would you discourage adding a little glycerin?

Normally jurak doesn't use any glycerin and produces less smoke as a result. You can of course add a little but if you add too much you'll change the flavour balance so i'd recommend restraint.
