Am I doing something wrong?

Ok you guys have probably heard this before but I am not getting much flavour from my session or not at all. I have tried evolution and can taste a slight lemon taste when I smoke lemonade and when I smoked soex mint I got the cooling feeling in my throat but that was it.

I have a nameless brand of hookah (2 hose) that cost me $70, Ive got an Egyptian bowl about 6cm wide and about 1.5 cm deep (although I have ordered a crown classic 3.0 an will hopefully receive it this week).

I am currently using these coals.

Although im not sure about the quality of these coals?

As for packing... i've watched quite a few videos and im pretty sure I pack it just like everybody else, I generally just put on 2 layers of aluminium foil and 2 of the dutch quick lights and rotate 90 degrees every 10 - 15 minutes.

the stem goes about an inch under the water level, possibly a little less and the hoses are the standard hoses (although I plan on getting some tonic hoses)

Also I thought it might be quality of the materials the hookah is made out of so I have decided to buy a new hookah as well and the decision has come down to these 2.

I want you to do an experiment, look up "Nakhla DA Overpack" in youtube, the best video I found is by a fellow hookah pro member. Now, try overpacking your favorite flavor and don't forget to sear the top layer.

This way should give you REALLY intense flavor, try it and tell me how it goes. If you do get the intense flavor you are probably packing wrong somehow, if you STILL get no flavor at all there's something wrong with your rig.

As for the hookah to buy I'd recommend the Cleopatra Nammor above the KM, just for the simple fact that the KM is 'painted' and that paint will eventually wear off and it will look shitty. If you can get another KM I'd recommend that.

Thanks mate, ill try it out and report back by the way here are some pics of the setup... at the moment i have soex coconut (still no flavour although i think im burning it cause im getting a bit of a tickle feeling so ive taken a coal off and it seems to be a little better.

That's not an egyptian, but a mod bowl. That is too much coal for that bowl. Try cutting them into halves and use 2-3 halves on the edge of the bowl.

Also, words of advice: QLs will make you lose flavor, too. Obtain natural coals, coconut coals are the best IMO.
Also, let's not even talk about Soex. If you wanna stick to herbal stuff, definitely do Evolution before Soex. But if you have no qualms about tobacco, ditch the herbal stuff.
Also, I'd go with neither of those two pipes. H-S overprices their KMs way too much, so if you can't use another vendor... No KM. If you can use another vendor, check out 5starhookah or UltimateHookah.
If you MUST use Hookah-shisha, I guess it's be preferable to get the Nammor for the sheer factor that it's not really overpriced since it's from the makers themselves. I mean, it's a good pipe, but for that price you can still obtain a godly Elmas 628 from 5star.

also, while you still have QLs, 2-3 halves will do like stated before. Use one layer of HD foil or two layers of regular foil. Poke many small holes all the way to the bottom. Don't hoover the hose.

I also have problems with flavour, I seem to pack everything 'right' i've watched countless videos I just can't get the amazing flavour that people seem to always talk about

Ok done the overpack... I can definitely taste.... uhm the only way I could explain it is a kind of spices taste and I think I detect a bit of aniseed/liquorice but still not that awesome taste people talk about its only a hint of flavour and I am definitely getting a buzz but here some pics...

Edit: taste has turned sickly and I cant even finish the bowl... Im feeling sick (most likely from the nicotine and me being new to hookah) although I still feel i may be doing something wrong, Ill wait until i get my crown bowl and I'll see how i go and ill post again, thanks anyway guys

well crap... got my crown classic 3.0 and Im smoking al fahker double apple.... I can taste it, the bowl DEFINITELY makes a difference, to be honest though it tastes less like double apple and more like liquorice
