Default First try at tangiers- very dry smoke

Hey guys,

Just trying out Tangiers F-line apple. The tobacco wasn't crazy wet like I expected. Packet it just like Scoop showed, and am using 3/4 of an exotica (1/2 an exotica wasn't getting much smoke). The smoke actually hurts my lungs. The clouds are about half the size of regular shisha that I have smoked. HAD to add ice to the water to smooth out the smoke. I am still not getting results like people have mentioned. Tastes/smells like apple but doesn't smoke all that great. Any tips on things I can try to get it smoking right?

You most likely under packed or you put waaay too much shisha (yes it is possible of putting too much tangiers tobacco in a phunnel). Were juices running down all over the bowl? If so, that means too much tobacco.

Ugh I never got this crap to smoke either. But usually, its heat management that is the prob when the smoke isn't all that great if you pack it right.

I packed it as close to the way scoop said as possible. I made it overflow a little, then moved the tobacco around w/a fork to get it to flatten out a little (didnt pack it though). It was a little higher than the top of the phunnel, then I put the foil on it and made holes. With 3 1/4 sticks of exoticas it isn't smokeable, so I have taken it down to 2 and the smoke just hurts. There were no juices running down, its not "that" juicy, but its not dry either. My AF shisha is wayyyyy wetter than this stuff. Its juicyness level doesn't make it look like it would need a phunnel. The smoke is dry and burns like crazy. Smoke is very little. I have to be doing something wrong but I don't see how it could be this bad.

This is the guide I used:

The tobacco is dry? Like Nakhla dry? Tangiers is supposed to be wet Maybe you got an old and dried up batch?

Then if that isn't the prob, it sounds like you underpacked. You may think you have enough tobacco when really, you need more

I'll have to try it again later with more tobacco in there. It isn't dry, its shiny and it was sticking to my fingers, but its not drippy wet like my AF or like I expected. I have 2 more 250g flavors I will have to try later to compare. I may have put in a hair too little tobacco in, although it was definately more than I regularly do, but what exactly does this change? (just a question not saying its wrong...just curious of its affects.)

but i was always wondering why do we need to pack so much tangiers into the bowl? I have the same problem, it hurts the throat. Me and my friend Banda1d got it to work 1 time out of about 6 tries. Since then we've been mixing it with SB and AF flavors...

Tangiers is a Noir style tobacco and it has more nicotine content, which means it needs to be packed a different way compared to regular shishas.

Yeah it is a bi-otch to get it right! lol

All in all, now after all my tries, its the coals. Heat management is the key to make this stuff smoke. I used to think Tangiers was a load of BS(dont kill me Tangiers lovers! lol) until one of my buddies packed a bowl of Maraschino cherry...damn it was delicious! I just had a tingle in the back of my throat while smoking this flav, but I've heard its normal

Tangiers uses different stuff like tobacco, glycerin, and molasses compared to shishas like Starbuzz and AF. I believe that is the reason why it smokes so good and why the flavors are so delicious and realistic compared to like SB or something lol.

Yeah more tobacco is good! Try that. I believe I have packed the tobacco right, it was just the coals that was making the session horrible. You have to put a smaller amount of coals than you usually do. Like for example, you usually put 1/3 of a stick on the phunnel for SB or something, use HALF of that amount for Tangiers. That's how heat sensitive this stuff is. if its still not smoking, putting on a windcover.

I use 4 pieces of coco nut coals (1 bar broken in half) on regular flavors. so i should like use only two pieces.. that windcover thing sounds brilliant i never thought of that.. i'm gonna pack some peach iced tea right now and try it.

hhhmmm if alot of people like tangiers then it must be pretty ok but IMHO i would just stick to like al fahker, starbuzz, etc.. cuz i would rather have a shisha i can just open up throw into a bowl and have it smoke great and not hurt your lungs or throat or what ever this is just me but i still dont know why people go through so much trouble just to smoke tangiers... please note im not trying to bash tangiers or the people that like to smoke it i just think why all the trouble?

+1. Tangiers is so tricky I know some people just got it right off the bat but honestly, it isn't really easy at all.

I like shishas that I can just pack in the bowl easily and just smoke away too

Tangier's Tobacco is downright easy as fuck for me to load and smoke.

Jilly, I don't understand how you're not getting unbelievable smoke and taste! It truly breaks my heart in three. Maybe four pieces on a bad day.

Canary Golden Coals are the best for Tangiers, but most people don't use 'em. I would use 3 and then add on whenever they got half their size. Perfect.

Exoticas, well, I don't use them at all. But if you were, cut a log into four pieces and just use two pieces until an hour or so.

With quick lights, cut two coals in half and use three on the bowl.

i packed the $hit out of the bowl this time, and used 2 small 3-kings coals

not harsh this time but no amazing flavor and only medium sized clouds, and no more of a buzz than regular shisha..hmmm

Don't feel bad Bro. More people have trouble with Tangiers than not. Those that enjoy it tinker around until they get it right. I have tried 9 times and no luck. Don't blame yourself. I like some of the Lucid Flavors alot, but no regular or F line for me ever again.

I over fill the bowl slightly and pack it to the rim. Ever since I did that it's worked every time with 2 coco naras. None of that over flowing business....I tried that and it was terrible.

Most people seem to like their lucid line. lol.
tangiers is a very tricky tobacco.
if it's harsh, it could be a number of things. inadequate acclimation, the bowl not being packed completely, too much heat, list goes on.
just stick with lucid if you're lazy like me...
