Default how long to light naturals with torch

ok i know some people use torches, so i have a few questions (i had brought up basically this a while ago on another forum but didnt go much past jsut seeing who used them)

how long does it take you to get the coal started fully, i know some use the small pocket torches and ive seen some people that use propane/mapp torches but how long does it really take for them to get fully going with a big torch?

also what do you use to hold the coals while you torch them and do yo light them inside or out?

im planing on using a mapp/propane torch when i get my set up and im planing to get the coco naras, i saw some one say it took 40-60 seconds per nara coal with a torch so just trying to see what people say

thanks

Honestly, I would say cook one untill you thought it was done and carfully break it open.

you'd be better off with a coil stove. you can get them at Walgreens for $10. It'll take around 6-10 minutes depending on the coal. The way I do it is I put the coals on the stove, set up my hookah and bowl, and by the time i'm done my coals are done.

Yeah reg stoves or portable one coil hot burners are better since its less work.

When I used to light naturals with a big torch, it would take about 5-6 mins...About the save time as a gas stove.

But, imo, stoves are better than torches cuz its less work :P

well im a pyro

what did you use to hold the coals in jilly?

i was planning on using a coal carrier from H-S and either just doing it under the hood on my stove or just walking out side (i dont have a balcony or anyother out side opening besides the front door but luckly i have to jsut open my door, turn left and open the door to the out side) if the smoke detectors are mean, maybe just go into my bathroom if there is a good fan on it but not to sure yet

Hah I just use my ghetto ass charcoal carrier that I kind of made and I just use the torch to get them lit on them. It gets kinda boring having to stand there that whole time to light them up thougH! lol

once you get them lit you should put them in a charcoal holder with a handle and wave in circular motion over your head (use enough momentum so they don't fall out!) and get them red hot.

Hell yeah, that's always fun.

I just rustle them up for a little bit and they explode in flames.

I just rub the coals in my hands and light them with friction. I wouldn't advise anyone else to do this. You must be very manly.

Portable burner is the best option for natural coals.. they are cheap and will work for a longtime. Depending on what coal you are burning it usually takes 5 to 10 minutes. Wait until they are completely red hot before smoking..

I would use a coil burner, but a blow torch is sometimes fun. it takes less time, but you have to sit there and shoot the flame around the whole coal.

untill the entire thing is glowing red hot..... you really cant give an exact time...

you can always just get them started and do what john (*************) said.
that is your best bet.

thanks for the responses, i know its not the easiest way but to me it seems like the most efficient and the most cost effective for me right now, plus after 20 hours of sweating coper pipes in under a week 3 mins of holding a torch is nothing to me.

CH, while that does sound very efficient i dont think i am hard core enough for that

any one think there will be any more smoke/smell from using a torch inside as apposed to the coil?

Honestly I think the torch is not going to do justice, you will spend more on fuel for it then you would with a coil burner using electricity. And yes I think smoke and the smell would be stronger with a torch then with a coil. Coils produce no smoke what so ever with natural coals.

I spent 9.50 on one of these at walgreens about 5 months ago.

coil burner is the way to go. I tent it with some foil that I shaped (funny enough, like a tent) and I can get 3 coconaras red hot in 4-5 minutes

(For outdoor use)
When you got your hookah you probably got one of those shi**y charcoal screens. What I do is I bend the tabs down to make like a little metal table. Then I put it on some nonflammable surface like concrete then the coals on top and take a coal to it until it glows under the torch. Then I flip the coals and repeat. Then I let it sit for like 5 mins so that it glows everywhere without the need for a torch. There probably will be light layer of ash. And you are good to go!
