Default Strange question - hoses

Since I've been considering a Nammor and it's supposed to be a "garden hose like" hose.... I really was wondering if a Garden Hose (new of course) could really be made into a workable hose?

Does anybody think it would be dangerious? Good idea, bad idea - hard to make work?

There's a store nearby that sells "aftermarket" and "defective" hoses - cheap as dirt becasue of minor flaws (big flaws if you wanted to use them as real garden hoses), but airtight enough to work as a hose.

Unless anybody thinks it might be a real bad idea - I may pick one up this week and see what I am "work" up... :} Biggest issue - end tips to fit BOTH the stem valve and the Mouth part...

Hum.... If it works, I'll have some sweet hoses plus.... I'll probalby give away some too!

Garden hoses have nasty chemicals that will make your smoke taste like New Jersey. A chum of mine tried using them several times and nothing he could do made it workable. The Nammor is pretty good but going with the cheap AF or H-S washables is the better way to go.

Like I said, I was just wondering - the guy I was talking to at the place said they had some that were "natural rubber" and those where the ones I was thinking about more... I was afraid the normal "hoses" would never get rid of that smell. *shutter*

Hummm..... wonder what else I could find...

The black hose, from the washable hose that Rudie reviewed is kinda like a vacuum line hose? or a small drainage hose? I have been trying to find some of that for making some hoses. (I have the same hose and I love it!) The other hose, more expensive, is the Tygon, which would be nice! But expensive ... about $1.50 a foot (approx.)

A hose made out of real natural rubber would be very expensive and it would taste awful. Tygon is good material for a hose but truthfully, with the AF hoses so cheap and the H-S 8$ working so well why bother?

*holds up umbrella waiting for more rain*

Ok, fine... I won't think about making any more hoses...gosh....

It's not as if I was worried about saving $$ - it's more like trying to figure out what would make a good hose. Sometimes it's more rewarding to make something yourself rather than rush out and buy one.

And SamB, I saw the sewage water/drain water hoses - too stiff. Hot water heater hoses where nice, but since they were coated in metal jackets, I'm not 100% sure what teh lining was - and they cost 14-20$ for a 4-12' section, minus the end tips.

HEHe interesting thread. My current hose is my old bathtub hose which i converted into a fully working hookah hose with airtight seal on both the mousth tip and on the hookah
Fully washable.
No nasty smell or taste
Flexible
Good/odd looking
Thicker than a normal hose (have you ever tried smoking diectly from the hookah w/out a hose? Thick smoke for 10 secs from 1 second draw-- thats how it is)

My next hose will be a tygon clear hose ill try to go for 3/4 inch which i actuall much thicker than a normal hose
I thing watching the smoke pass through a clear hose would be cool
Plus you can see how clean it is
And its really cheap (3foot of tygon = less than 6 dollars -_- at least in my country)

I would like to find some reasonably priced hose. And we have access to lathes and plastic to make our own ends one of these days! I would like to find the hose first though...

Yeah, That plastic washable hose I reviewed,
it's like the tubes for air compressors that inflate some air beds.
I had a small one, and put wood tips fro man old Mya hose in th ends lol.
It's wide-gauged, but still pretty nice.

Ive tried all sorts of stuff...

if it washes well.... then its too stiff.

If it flexes well... it tastes bad.

My wife is a nurse... I'll have her bring some of this home to try soon.

its called CPAP tubing. and comes in up to 6 foot sections. Its used for respiratory care applications.

► CPAP tubing constructed from a metallocene plastomer wall with thermoplastic elastomer cuffs.
► CPAP tubing cuffs are sized to fit 22mm male connections
► Helical wall support design prevents collapsing while the smooth interior offers excellent unobstructed flow characteristics
► Can be pasteurized at 170F (75C)
► CPAP tubing is Latex Free
► Lightweight and cost effective alternative to silicone cuff CPAP tubing
► Constructed from materials complying with FDA 21 CFG177.1520
► Full Biocompatibility Testing per ISO 10993/FDA - Test Data available

I know.. thats kinda wrong.... but if they use the stuff for vapor treatment and nebulizers and shit..... gotta work for us too.

22mm is right around 7/8 of an inch..... I imagine you could cut the ends off if you needed to ditch em?

This sound like a great material. If you find a good source let known. Have you actually tried using hose ends with it? You may want to look at the sphinx hookah site because they have khalel-mamoun hose tips.

There's a medical supply shop localy that I'm gonna hit up tonight and see if they have this - otherwise I found some on Ebay. Not horribly cost efficient, but if it's flexible, I consider it worth it.

Hajo, I'm gonna hit up that site you listed - I need to find some mouthtips for various hoses I have, 2 of my DIY one's LOST the tips (not sure where they went!).

Still waiting to get some of this stuff. I may have to get some at a med supply myself....wife doesnt think theres any of that lying around at her work.

The connections are 22mm.......... around 7/8ths of an inch.... I ve got a couple of MYA wide tips that probably work.

But hell....... while you are at it... might as well get the headgear kit for that stuff and go hands free...lol.

I like that mouthtip thing.... thats pretty cool.

Outside of sphinx I can't recall any place that sells hose ends of any sort. It certainly would be nice if some retailer would carry an assortment of hose ends.

well checked all the local stores - nobody has them. asked the last place and turns out the reason no-one carries them is almost teh very reason I want one - they are often turned into hoses for less than legal items. I laughed at the woman when she told me that - I told her I wanted to make a Hookah Hose. She got angery but I showed her a picture and explained. Then she though it was a good idea - :

But my thing is that I've never held one - I wanted to see how stiff they were and such not. Shishaholic, I've seen that site and another, but the shipping (or min order required) makes buying a normal nammor more cost effective in the long run.

Hose/tubing (plus shipping) + tips + fabric for a cover = the nammor is cheaper.

Plus, I don't have any MYA wide tips, although I have 2 Syrian tips that may work. Blarg... Ebay sells the CPAP tubing as well, but again w/ the shipping issue.

All this hunting for new hose materials is making me understand why Hoses are so pricey in the first place. I even found the A/C vent hose and turned it down, WAY TOO STIFF to work right (plus the ends where HUGE).
