Default Metallic taste?

Just got a new 39" KM Chiller (pics and reviews to follow). I just smoked the inaugural bowl of tangiers and noticed a metallic aftertaste. I ran water through the stem beforehand, but am hoping that this was just some rust or residue that needs to be scrubbed out. Anybody experience this before with a new pipe? Tips?

There is most likely dust/ dirt particles inside the hookah. That is why most vendors always suggest cleaning out new hookahs prior to smoking it.

Just scrub out the stem with some dish washing soap (small amount), water, lemon juice, and baking soda (for extreme cleaning).

After that, all should be good

Try cleaning out the hose port. I got some nasty black stuff when I first cleaned out my KM.

Yeah there was a black film inside the stem, hose port and purge valve of my MZ when I got it. I cleaned it well before the first smoke and it was fine.

Just wondering, are you using quick light coals?

I really couldn't say. I just noticed it about 30-40 mins into the session.

i know when you first get the km, they have this weird grim all inside the stem / hose port. Its almost like a silky sticky metal dust. Gotta clean the crap out of it, its really nasty.

It was the hose port. Srubbed out all of that black shit and ran hot water/lemon juice/baking soda through the whole thing. Bowl of AF Lemon Mint mix was fine, no metallic taste.

Gotta say, this stem is a monster. I gotta get some new brushes or figure out some better way to clean this beast. Maybe that saxophone cleaning kit idea....

A rifle/shotgun cleaning kit is perfect for long stems.
