Default Scalli Mod..

Does anyone know how to make one, or where I can buy another one?

I bought my last at hookah company, but I don't see it on their site anymore.

Thanks,

the mod is used so you can used antother type of shisha in a tangiers phunnel bowl. this mod closes off the large hole in the middle of the bowl, phunnel that is, and forces the hot air to be pulled down under the shisha and then buck up underneath the coverd hole in the bowl, due to the mod. this also lets you use less shisha in the bowl. if im wrong about this im sorry but im pretty sure that is the reason for the mod.

I have used it both with and without the mod and see no difference except you use less shisha with the mod.....BUT you have this little glass piece to clean burnt shisha off of now. I tossed mine and use a funnel bowl daily with every tobacco I smoke, modless.

The original Scalli mod was made from a copper pipe cap that you get at Home Depot. Scalli used a press to distort the the cap so smoke would pass through. You could pop the thing a couple of times with a hammer and get the same results.

But isn't it kinda dangerous since it is copper? I know that coals aren't hot enough to make the copper start to smoke, but I can't help but feel a lil wary lol

Hookah Company used to sell Smiley Mods which of course he stole the idea from Scalli. No one carries Smiley's products anymore.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I'm going to see if I have anything like that at home. After shipping the scalli glass mod is a little much....

Do you guys think that if I made a mod out of layers and layers of foil (to get it just as thick as the glass) would work?

I'd like to try it...I don't feel like wasting $6 on something and then having to wait a week-two weeks for it to arrive. Yes, I am impatient :P

a) you don't need one. I like the concept but I get amazing smoke with my small funnel un-modified.
b) Yuo you can make one out of tinfoil and it will work fairly well. it is just hard to get the right shape.

Its not really just to get good smoke or anything, I know mods have no difference compared to using it without one.

I just wanna get it because I really wanna save shisha. I smoke by myself most of the time and I hate the fact of how my shisha I'm wasting since I only smoke one session out of a small phunnel bowl. A mod will definitely save me a lot of money.

I've been using a scali mod for something like 2 years and I love it. Basically it helps to distribute airflow within the bowl meaning less wastage and better tastes. It's the best accessory i've ever bought. If you cover in cooking oil clean up is easy and if you still get some build up put a teaspoon of dish washing powder into a small cup, mix with water and let the mod sit overnight.

dude no joke, go buy yourself one of those big 24 oz cans of jolt with that lid that makes a loud thud when you open it, the lid makes the perfect mod. aluminum, perfect height, and the outer 1/4" on the top tapers in at an angle. plus its already crimped in a few spots so it will screw onto the bottle.

or get a tea light from somewhere and get all the wax out of it and crimp the edges in a bit

i have the small phunnel though but it should still work with a medium too.

fyi AL melts at 1220 F and bras melts at 1710 F (of course depending on alloy slightly but around there)

so shouldnt have any issues there, at least i wouldnt expect them

I know it can't melt with coals. I'm saying, can't toxins and fumes be released when copper is heated?

shouldnt have any in standard plumbing copper, you have to heat it up to a good 600-900* to sweat (solder) the pipes in. also there are plenty of copper pots or copper bottomed pots and they reach pretty high temps with not issues

pure copper, most steels (except galvanized), aluminum, brass should all be good to go. i wouldnt used galvanized since the zinc, when heated, turns to a gas and is really really bad, probably not hot enough in a hookah but zinc fumes are not something play with., all the other metals need such a high temp to melt that it should be good.

just to support, never ever use galvanized in something that will be used for food or smoking.
