Default Questions about Akhla Quicklites

So, I used my Hookah for the first time and got Akhla quicklite coals with them. The problem is, I couldn't get them to get going. If you look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6hKJHDiCfc it shows that all you need to do is let it go for a few seconds, but when I tried it just sparked a bunch and still wasn't red. I had to hold it under the flames for at least a minute to get it fully going. Am I doing something wrong?

Also, how many of these do you guys suggest using? I only used one to start and didn't get much smoke so I'm thinking like two?

Wink Re: Questions about Akhla Quicklites

Well Johnny5, Sometimes quicklites can be a pain..
People use regular lighters for quicklites and at takes a little while to get them going, But if you go out and buy a torch, Like a lighter torch (you can pick one up at a smoke shop for like 10 bucks) You should be able to get it started at a fair rate.

On another note, on my 1 hose homemade hookah 1 and 1/2 quicklites works like a charm.

when they say 0 to 15 and it says "lit" yea it may have stoped sparking and heat has traveled all the way thru it but u need to keep heating it up or blowing on it until it becomes red ALL around it or u risk carbon monoxide poisoning and ruinin the session. i usually put my quicklites on the stove burner let htem cath fire and then blow on them till they glow red all around. it takes like a min or to. same thing can be done with zippo, torch, etc.

Akhla are notorious for their rapid and somewhat violent ignition. I think perhaps you just need to blow on them until they are red hot and glowing.

Personally I use 2 33mm coals or one 40mm when I use QL coals.

Akhla's aren't lighting?! wtf?! I can light them with a candle. Just hold the QL with your tongs over the flame for about 3 seconds.

Just because it's done sparking does not mean it's ready. Every quicklight still needs to fully heat up and go red. That spark is just an igniter to help the coal start up. Just let them finish sparking and then let them sit about 3 to 5 mins then they should be good. And cool avatar, Daft Punk still kicks ass.

if its humid where you live that could be affecting your coals. last year it was pretty humid here and everyone i knew that had some quicklights was having problems with them not lighting very easily, and some with them being crumbly

All the times i've used akhla, they would stop sparking in around 20 seconds, and it would only take maybe 3- 4 blows to get them completely red.

Yeah you have to blow on the quicklights after they stop sparking so that they become fully lit and ashed over.

You don't have to blow on them, that's only to make them ash quicker. Most people do but it's not a requirement. I'm usually not in a rush to get them going in seconds, so I let them sit a few.
