Default Coals on gas stove

would it be possible to put a pan down and heat it up and put the coals in the pan to light them?

It'll work, but it'll take a little longer. I've done it before and it cooks them much much more evenly than if you just stick the coals on the stove. But it'll ruin the pan you use, so make sure its a pan you don't intend on using for food.

It works. I wouldn't use a pan that you cook with though. Also, Make sure it isn't copper...? i remember samiamii telling us that some pans with break with that heat.

Yeah, just put it directly on the flame. That's how I do it.

probably not a great idea to use a pan, it would need to get so hot to transfer the necessary heat to the coals that you'd risk fire. If you don't want to buy a single coil burner, I'd think you could probably get some heavy chicken wire type material to sit on your gas burner to balance the coals a little better

im going to guess the OP's reason for using the pan is to not get any coal/ash down in the burner.

probably will work but like said it will take a long time
