Default Total Noob Questions.

Ok I did read some of the old posts and did view all the videos on u-Tube.
Some questions I had.

a. What is the best amount of Tabaco to use. As per the videos I see them filling the bowl to the brim. That is one hell of a lot of Tabaco. Not only being costlly. It seems wastefull.

b. Ive used my new unit a few times. Each time only the top layer of the tabaco seems to be used. The tabaco along the sides and under the top layer seem un burnt. Do you lift the foil and move things arround ?

c. As per the videos I see them poke holes over the complete cup. but the coals are only placed over some of these holes.

It depends on the size of your bowl mate and how you pack it. You're not supposed to squeeze as much tobacco in the bowl as you possibly can. If you look at most of the youtube vids you'll see that the tobacco is packed nice and lose/fluffy all around until it's one or two millimetres from the brim.

Are you rotating your coals? You should start with 2-3 pieces and place them on opposite edges of the bowl and rotate them every 10-15 minutes. As the coals get smaller you move them closer to the centre so that you get a nice even burn. There will always be a little uncooked tobacco right at the bottom of the bowl once you're done.

You require multiple holes so that you actually have proper airflow (try taking a hit if you only have holes right underneath the coals and you'll see what I mean) and so that you can rotate the coals around the bowl.

If you're still unsure about something I suggest you check out these vids:

They will give you all the info you need.

BTW...welcome to the forum!

People need to realize that each brand of tobacco is packed differently from other ones.

Tangier's Tobacco is packed to the brim in a Phunnel Bowl.

Al Fakher should be tight, but not Tangier's tight.

Starbuzz/Fusion/Tonic is loose.

Nahkla is a few steps down from Tangier's tobacco.

Well that is why he was asking. If your new you dont know these things so. But to a point each brand is different. Dont forget to move coals around to help with the burnt tabbaco. Also different brands take different amounts of heat so it is trial and error for a while. On all parts. On the videos it might look like a lot but you are not suspossed to pack it tight, it should be very loose and airy. And btw Welcome!

My tobacco is Two apples Nakhla Tobacco.

My coals are Something Arabic 100 Quick Lighting Charcoal Bricquettes, ignites quick, Long Burining, Odorless. They are round in shape. And from the Videos I see people use only one. They are round in shape.

My Shisha is from a company called AGer, Hand made Bohemian Glass Chez Republic.
The bowl is a standard ceramic bowl.

Can you give me an idea on how many Grams of tobaco should be used ?

Thanks for your time and all the helpful answers.
When I run out of these fancy coals I plan to shift to normal coals.

I have yet to Smoke Nakhla Tobacco, But My idea would be to use roughly 15 grams. I get just over 3 bowls per 50g package when I smoke. But thats when I'm not using a Phunnel Bowl. as for coals, I use Exotica coals. They are a pain in the ass to light if you don't have an electric or gas stove, but they last one hour+ if you aren't hitting it every 10 seconds. I've also heard a lot of good things about Coco coals, but haven't tried them yet. As far as quick lights, The best ones I've used are 3 kings. They are somewhat tasteless as long as you wait until they aren't black anymore. and they last the longest out of the quick lights I've used (i've used only 40mm quick lights).
I hope this helps

Yeah 15 grams sounds about right. The bowl that came with my hookah is pretty shallow so a 50g pack can last a few rounds. It's the phunnel bowl that depleted my tobacco supply using around 50g

So at 15grams a shot at 25$ for 50 grams it sounds like an expensive hobby.
Then again. We get cigarettes and local Tobacco at absurdly low rates.
Though I suspect this tobacco is going to be imported and cost a lot more.

These coals light easy and burn themselves out to the very end. Even if you dont puff on them.
