Default New AF

Everyone seems to agree the new cut of Al-Fakher has to be packed a bit differently but how it should be packed now is a bit more up in the air.

Just looking for some input from anyone who's smoked the new AF on what worked for them

Fluffy, but packed down very lightly. I've been doing it this way for a while, and have had no problems..

it depends - for normal bowls I tend to fluff it up a good bit, then slightly tamp it down. If the cut is making you cough from a throat tickle, then pack in down harder (but still leave air-flow space). In a phunnel or vortex bowl, i pack it tighter. It seems to need alittle more heat than the old stuff, but you still have to watch it.

i have a phunnel and when i occasionally smoke the new stuff i pack it down pretty tight, i don't jam as much as i can in there or anything lol. then i make three round circles on the foil and throw 3 CH coals on there and i'm good to go. just experiment to get what's best for you

yeah That sounds like Johns method..
Ive tried that a few times. I can't understand how u manage to get that working.. My AF bruns very quick from that super mega strong heat.. 3CH coals is a lot.. I guess it works on a large phunnel or medium tangier.. But small chinese phunnel will die from that overdose

I haven't tried the new cut yet .. so I wouldn't know .. I am hoping to get some soon though and I will let you know! But I trust a lot of what people said, they are very well informed here. So try the fluff and lightly tap the tobacco down method.

Yeah, I just smoked my first bowl of the new AF last night and that's exactly what I did. I sprinkled it just past the lip of my large chinese phunnel then packed it down to just below. I used 3 CH coals and John's 3 squares hole pattern in the foil. I went through 2 sets of 3 coals, lasted a good hour and a half. I had great smoke and flavor the whole time. I'm too new to have experienced "old cut AF" but the new stuff seems fine to me.

i hate it when u have it down and then when the new cut comes out, you have to figure it all out again. sometimes it just doesnt smoke the same. i've tried everything w/ my new AF cut and its still the same... the throat tickle thing...

ive tried it all..
-less/more heat
-les/more tobacco
-loosely/tightly packed bowl
-double foil and windcover

I just received an order of AF from John. In a mod bowl, I pack it lightly, sure to leave an air pocket between the foil and the tobacco. Seems to smoke fine no matter which coals i use. Sometimes a single 40mm Golden quick lite, others two CH quick lites.

I have found that a funnel tends to work better with finer cuts of tobacco. If a funnel is not an option, you may want to consider allowing the moassel to dry out a bit so as not to clog your holes as much.
