Default Tall Hookah's

So I recently bought a really tall hookah from a local smoke shop, and the only way I can get it to smoke well is with using a wind cover. When I take it off I get very little smoke. Do you always need to use a wind cover with tall hookahs?

I've yet to learn these sort of stuff about hookahs and how they work, but I can assume that height affects the way charcoal burns as a consequence of a longer way for the air/smoke to travel, leaving a softer draw which fails at keeping the ember on (which, on yer case is resolved by protecting that ember).

How tall is tall? Something like a 32" hookah shouldn't be a problem. If you have one of those ridiculous MZs that are so tall they have two coal trays, you are going to probably need more heat to keep the smoke thick by the time it makes its way down.

PS... If you've only smoked "table-top" hookah before, you're probably adjusting to bowl size more than hookah size. My Razo or Expresso will smoke well with two coals because of the bowl size. When I smoke my MZ or Syrian pipes, I need 3-4 coals for the larger bowls and better air flow.

i have a 31 incher and i use 3 easy-lite japanese coals. it works just fine. i think the height doesn;t hav anything to do with it. i think all the heat management and smoke level is in the bowl are. the longer stem just allows the smoke to cool more.

thats what logic says anyways, i am in no way a hookah expert.

i also have a very tall hookah, and we learned either using bigger coals, or 2 small coals gives great white clouds, but be carefull not to burn the sheesh too much

Would it happen to be a KM exotica? Thats sounds like what it is. I have a 36 in. KM Amoura and it smokes very well. You really just need to use more heat hince thats why you are only getting big smoke with your wind cover hope this helps.
