Default flavor retention

I wouldn't begin to know how to search for this here so I am posing a question. I have heard that a hookah like a pipe will retain the flavor of the last tobacco smoked in it to a certain extent. The idea being that you wouldn't want to mix flavors in an unpleasant way so it is good to stick with a few flavors or one per pipe. My Question, and obviously I know many of you don't have that problem, is Is that really an issue, is it a matter of changing out bowls or is it in the hoses or the pipe itself? I mean would I want to get a different bowl for each shisha I liked to keep the flavors truly separate or would I need different pipes?

not exactly the answer you are looking for...

but when i go without heavy duty baking soda/lemon juice scrub downs...then the flavors end up blended and blah....but after a heavy scrubdown it tastes like new again...no left over flavor...at least for me anyway.

i use the same bowl/hose everytime...and as long as i wash the hoses/hookah/bowls regularly i dont have like flavor build up ^_^

Honestly I've smoked everything from apples to bubble gum and after a good cleaning there isn't any flavor retention (unless you have a nonwashable hose, then just have more than 1 for different flavors).

I clean my hookah VERY well after each and every use! Check out my cleaning videos ..

Anyhow, I have a different hose for flavors. Well kinda. I have my own hose for Double Apple, my own for Mint, and another hose for berry flavors (blueberry, strawberry, etc) a hose for coffee flavors. Etc, you get the idea.

As for the bowl, I just use what I got and clean it well. Hope that helps!?

a good wash gets most of it out. you dont get a whole lot of flavor retention as much as just a sweet smell you cant really get out.

a washable hose is the best as well, a non washable may give you some flavor but not a whole lot.

since its steamed basically as apposed to burned the flavor doesnt stick really

I think you touched on something that explains my biggest concern. I hadn't thought about the way the smoke is produced. Part of the problem with pipes is that you leave the ash in the pipe to help the pipe function properly. Breaking in requires burning several bowls before you have that ash. But with a Hookah you aren't actually burning the tobacco you are heating it with a coal that never touches it. So it may retain some but not nearly as much as a pipe would.

Thanks that makes sense. And yeah I have heard all about how cleaning after every use is paramount. Just one more reason I suppose. Thanks.

well cleaning after every session isnt uber important but most a lot of people do do it. i have a friend that cleans his every week or 2 if hes smoking it a lot but he does clean the bowl, change the water, and blow out his hoses. but if you do it that way you just have to wash it more hard core when you do.

i rarely use lemon at all just because i clean it every time with jsut water and a brush and wipe it all out (i have a rotator so i dont need to brush the bowl since i can wipe it)
