Default Just bought KM 38" Chiller (not pulling so well? help)

Hello!

I purchased a 38" KM Chiller through ******* Hookah, and loved their services. John @ CH hooked it up with a cool AF knife/lighter & a deck of playing cards on top of my entire order. (I've told my friends and they were very impressed as well) I received the hookah TWO days after putting in my CC info and ordering it. (Talk about an amazing service)

Anyways, my problem:

I loaded up some Tangiers Passion Fruit in to a NON-MODDED funnel bowl. Loaded some salt/ice/water in to the chiller. I had a hard time placing the stem into the vase, got it down to about a half-inch left and my friends and I agreed that it should be fine so we left it at that. Placed tinfoil over the funnel bowl with an outer circle of holes, and an inner circle of holes, with one hole in the middle (not too big). Used the natural coals from ******* Hookah (took a while to heat up.. like, a long while) and started smoking.

It took probably 5 minutes until we had any REAL smoke coming out, and even then it was still very thin and rather harsh. Why could this be?

I've tried to be as thurough as possible with my description, if you have any questions please let me know. I'll be reviewing this post & answering questions for a bit because I'm interested in reloading this thing asap.

Thanks!

You know how to pack Tangiers right? Tangiers needs to packed in a special way if you don't know.
Also, put some water on that grommet, and really push it in there to get it snug on.
You also want to check your setup for leaks. Before you put on the bowl, put your hand over the hole of the stem where the bowl goes, and try to take a pull off your hose. If you are able to, there's a leak in your setup

I don't think my KM hose that came with the hookah fits the hookah very well, there's a minimal air leak, but it doesn't produce bubbles or anything. I tried sucking straight out of the base instead of through the hose and I had absolutely no way of getting air. Thanks for letting me know about the water-on-grommet thing, that helped me fit it snug.

The hose is like... pretty freakin' tight in the thing though. (not a huge air leak)

maybe I've been packing the tangiers wrong.. I'll go look that up.

edit: I used 3 pieces of coal earlier.

my list would go something like:

check for leaks
sand down the grommet a bit
i would recommend against adding salt into your ice chamber. it will corrode the metal
search the forums for a tangiers packing tutorial if this is your first time

Sounds like your purge valve may be not working correctly. Make sure the ball bearing isn't stuck and that nothing is blocking it open.

A good way to check for leaks is to set up your hookah like normal, but don't put the bowl on. Cover the top hole with your finger and try to suck in though the hose. You shouldn't be able to suck any air in. If you are able to suck air in, you have a leak somewhere. If you blow out the hose, air should only escape from your purge valve.

Are you using a hose grommet, or just sticking the hose in the hose receiver. You should be using a grommet to make sure you get a good seal.

I'm not using a Grommet, my hookah didn't come with one!

I may head down to my local hookah shop later and pick one up. Thanks!

I'll report back tonight on whether it worked or not.

(any good posts on how to pack a new tangiers bowl?)

Well, not having a hose grommet is going to be the problem I think with the draw. as far as packing Tangiers, there are multiple post on it.
