Default Grill coals

I've got a question. Can I use normal coals, like the coals I use when I'm making a BBC, on a Hookah??

NO!!! Very, very bad. You can get carbon dioxide poisoning. Only use coals that are made for hookah. Welcome to the board! Enjoy your stay.

If it is 100% natural chemical free hardwood coals, yes. if they are briquets like Kingsford or the like, no!

BTW Does BBC stand for British Broadcasting Corporation? LOL

Natural hardwood with no chemicals. Yes. anything else not at all. It is toxic. More toxic than smoking normally is lol.

Make sure that it says no chemicals or chemical free and you will be fine.

I think we should take group-action and force all international charcoal briquette companies all over the world (and Mainland China who make the most), to do like they do with their tainted milk products. All Bar-B-Que coals and cooking coal packages should have written on them :Warning to hookah smokers--these charcoal briquettes not only taint your steak and hamburgers, but are dangerous to use for smoking hookahs". Just like they do on cigarette packs. Or as done in Great Britain they can print a photo of what happens to a persons brain , heart and lungs by using cooking coals as a heat source. That'll educate the unitiated. Can't you imagine millions of teens who are not old enough to drive or purchase real hookah coals run into the garageto swipe some cooking coals for their friend's hookah? Its free, no?

kinda breaks my heart thinking of all the little ones out there fillin their lungs with carbon monoxide.... i actually thought of this idea when i first understood what hookah was about too, but quickly learned, do to the care of friends and the hookahpro community, the basic rule of thumb, that i can't take any short cuts, and if it's a lot cheaper than the other stuff, there's something wrong with it :-P

If you want natural coal make it yourself. make a dry retort . .a lot of instructions on the internet. Basicly put hardwood in a closed but no sealed tin or metal container and cook over a fire untill the there is no smoke comming out and then seal the container so as no oxygen gets in to ignte the coal. After they cool. .they cn be lit and used as normal coal. If done properly they are much better than hookah coal as they do not contain bonding agents.

I think Diego (DMC) had a friend that almost died because he smoked only one session with BBQ coals. That should tell you to stay away from them

Ya I remember that. He said his friend had to stay in the hospital for a week for them to PUMP out all of the carbon monoxide in his blood. Scary to know he almost died

There's a little bit of everything. CO2, CO, all loads of crap. Methane, I believe is a product of those Kingsford Briquettes

Again, good charcoal could be safe, but better make your own. You never know if bbq charcoal maufacturers use treated wood, and they sometimes do. If you can get cherry tree wood or apple wood, and distill it good, then it's safe.

it's just something about the season... you get depressed going into the winter time and seeing all those girls dressed in their skanky halloween outfits drives people (guys inparticularly) insane. So if after halloween, you don't hook up with that cute little bumble bee across the room, and you've got nothin else to look forward to but lots of freezing weather, i'm sure more than just Sialc would think about smoking himself to death lol

well, i mean, some don't have any probs with this (i.e. me and you) but others just may, and those others might just so happen to go home that night withoug skanky halloween drunken girl and try and chill out by smokin a nice bowl, but sees that he has no more coals left, and gets depressed, and drunken him thinks bbq coals would be a grand idea, and smokes himself to death.... that'd be a sad day for hookahers across the nation hookahs will be smoked at half bowl that day

Hookahs smoked at half bowl that is awesome. LOL. I have actually been getting into charcoal art and the idea of making your own for both reasons sounds like a neat idea. Of course they would be different woods. The easiest way would be to use the mesquite, or hickory chips. they are already small, already dried and don't have additives because they are used for smoking.
