Default Dumb question

Ok i have been reading a lot of reviews lately and one word seems to keep coming up.

People relate problem with stems? quality (in part at least) on amount of stems in the sheesha. If you dont mind me asking, what is the problem with stems. I just smoke those puppies too

I could see it if sheesha was chewed but they smoke just fine for me.

Well stems weigh more than the leaf, so you get less for your money if theres a lot of stems. The other thing, stems tend to be harsh smoking, I used to include them in my bowl but now I toss em.

I pick out the stems but I am not really sure why it is that I pick out my stems. I think it is one of those traditions that may or may not be completely unfounded in harming the quality of the smoke sessions.

I do "feel cheated" when I open up a box of shisha and it has a lot of stems.

Stems result in a harsher smoke and less flavour. A key sign of a quality mu'essel is how few stems you have as it shows that that the maker is actually concerned about giving the consumer a quality product made up of leaf rather then something that detracts from the experience.

Stems are literally that...stems. They are the woody separating each part of a leaf. In this case, a tobacco leaf.

Here is a pic I modded, hopefully its clear enough to get the point, lol.

Yeap, alot of stems seems to produce a lesser smoke, both in smoke itself and taste. Now, I have noticed that if you cut up the stems and put them back into the shisha, when smoked it does seem to increase the "nicotine" buzz... but only a little.

But basically, more stems equals lesser quality shisha.
