Lightbulb Idea to replace charcoal altogether

I was thinking . .what if someone made a heating device consisting of an adjustable electric element . .similar to the ones in our hairdriers or radiators . .that could be fitted above the aluminum foil of the hookah, instead of lit charcoal. Is there something like that available on the specialist market? If not would any of you see a problem with such a device? ( would it affect flavour? would it ruin the whole traditional hookah smoking atmosphere? etc?)

The advantages of this could be tremendous though - No nasty quicklite smell. . no ash on the stove. . no CO or CO2 in our lungs, no mess .. . fast hookah set-up time ..etc etc . .
Ofc it could be easily designed to be adjustable to fit most hookahs and also heat meters would be in place with various power settings. Also ways of insulating it so that it does not overheat the whole hookah or is a fire hazard could be put in place with ease.

Any Thoughts?

many of us have had the thought but it is hard to replace the quality job that the coals do

Given enough investement and trials I see no reason this couldn't be refined enough to replace charcoal. It would basicly be a bigger more adjustable version of a car lighter.

yeah there are way too many variables to have a constant source of heat like that, even if it is adjustable

One reason why its hard for these to work is that coals cool down when you aren't smoking. Then when you inhale, the coals get hotter.

Mende this has been discussed in many forums but you seem tenacious. I think your having an entrepreneurial moment here and you should run with it. If you really believe it can be done do it and get really rich!

fezzik was the last one to bring this up recently and he was probably the first person to be able to come up with the right design basically on his own IIRC. only real thing is getting something that can take the abuse and then deal with the power cord issue.

i dont doubt it could be done i just think there are a lot of things about it that need to be looked at

Just ask Hank Hill he will tell you propane burns clean. Taste the meat not the heat. LOL. Yeah I was thinking electric coil like the ones in car lighters built into a snap on contraption about the size and possibly shape of a snap on wind screen with a sensor on either the hose grommet or the head grommet to sense when to let the tobacco rest and when to provide heat. The AC-Adapter cord causes safety issues but might be avoided by finding some decent battery technology. Custom Li-Ion battery might work just keep it on the charger and it should get you through a single session per charge. Possibly back up batteries could be avialable for long smokes or multiple bowls. Just a thought though. But yeah weren't we talking about that like a week or two ago. That was how we found out about that gnarly propane hookah that most of us thought was fake at first. LOL.

I know of two different companies that have done that already. The Tembo/ShishaArt people in France and some firm in Taiwan both make "electric shishas". Never tried the Taiwanese one but the Tembo works pretty well. The damn thing is expensive to buy and run, a hassle to use and clean but it's pretty good nonetheless. Still, i'll stock with my Syrians until they make one that is bigger and better looking.

I've already started to put together a prototype for one. There are a bunch of factors that most people dont consider when attempting to build one. I wont reveal too much of my plans for it, but I have about 5 electricians working on it with me, so I should have a working prototype up and running in a week. I just need to find someone who is a far along circuits major to help me with a few things
