Default al fakher help?

so i recently ordered some af (watermelon, grenadine, strawberry and mixed berries) and ive noticed that they are extremely harsh. they smell amazing and whatnot but when it comes time to smoke, i cough like nobody's business. im a pretty avid smoker(cigs) so for the most part i know it isn't because my lungs are weak. my setup is a bambino with a tangiers funnel, nammor hose and ch quicklights. i usually put three coals when im smoking fantasia or starbuzz but i dropped down to two wit af. should i be doing something else with my setup? or is af really that harsh?

o know there has been some problems with AF recently, i don't know if this could be a part of that or if this is actually a heat management issue. Could even be a cleaning issue. I would say to give your rig a good cleaning like Sambooka shows in his vid and to play with the heat. I personally never had much of a problem with AF being harsh.

Idk why...Af has been havign that prob, especially with me

The cut is the problem. Its too fine now. It used to be a medium cut but they changed it for some reason.

Its not really "harsh" per se, but more like the flavor is too strong that I can't draw in too much smoke without coughing.

The only thing that works for me is if I pack it down in a phunnel. Push push down slightly as you pack the bowl, just enough to push out the air pockets in it.

Same with Jill, I recently had a 50g pack of Al Fakher Fruit Cocktail and it was very hard to smoke. If I smoked how I normally do I would cough, so I had to take slow pulls and it sucked. It wound up going harsh, but that's the only flavour I've really had problems with so far aside from using too much heat

AF is a bit harder to get going then starbuzz or fantasia of course.. just pack it and push it gently down so it has some more space between foil and tobacco, and use ur three coals in a triangle and if it doesnt get enough heat then it will probably be harsh,.. its something Ive discovered .. theres some kind of harshness when the flavour has not begin to work yet.. so either u have some more patience for the shisha to become hot or u add more heat and it can go from harsh bad tasting to perfect in a minute or two..

i havent had much of an issue.

your using 3 ql's? that seems excessive unless your using the CH qls.

if they are normal qls try breaking them in half to spread the heat out and make sure you have a nice gap under the foil and give it a few mins to get going

OK, I am gonna jump in .. if it is getting harsh, it is most likely that you have to much heat or are overpacking your bowl. Try using less tobacco or less heat, or both!?

I have only come across one tobacco/flavor that was harsh tasting to me, with proper heat management. and that was Layalina Mangosteen.

I am not saying if it is the AF or not, but in my experience it may be your heat management and packing of your bowl. So take a look at those before you go and get all disappointed in AF.

Cheers!

My mistake was buying new AF. My fix was buying 06 AF from John.

Basically all I have tried is Nakhla so far but The guy who got me started tells me AF is a lot better. I am looking forward to trying it. I have a few flavors stashed and plan on getting a few more before too long and see where this takes me.

That will honestly be a personal tastes issue, Fezz. You will notice differences between Nakhla and AF. They are very differnet in cut, flavor and appearance.

At half the price I think I will like Nakhla just fine LOL. But I am looking forward to trying some more brands. Anyway my point is many of the people who have a favorite do so passionately. I also find it odd that in his opinion of from what he understands AF is the best there is and is widely thought of as the best there is but yet this whole thread is people saying it is harsh or you kind of have to learn how to work with it to get the best results from it. Kind of amazing how that works.

when it really breaks down I think it depends on which flavors you like and why. Some makers seem to make some flavors better than others while the others may make others better. Best to try them all . LOL.

yeah and try first and read after is also a advice I give since I think many ppl here reads first about ketchup tobacco and licorise apple so then they wille excpect that and then look for that in the flavours...

ive been smoking AF for about 7 years, and true i too do not like the new cut but flavor wise i still love it. If you have a 2007 batch of AF its crap, from the 3 hookah forumns i am apart of majority agree that there was a recipe change in 2007 that lead to crap shisha.

Apart from that, majority of AF flavors still taste awesum. I do agree with reality that heat is the key for AF, but if you guys find any july-august 2008 AF's they're really good.
