Default Smoke Purging?

So i was having a conversation with my friend who originally introduced me to hookah, and the topic of smoking came up. He basically mentioned that he would purge the smoke out of the vase/chamber before every single hit he took, claiming that the smoke was "fresher". I have also read this in a few amateur tutorials. Is this really necessary? Ive smoked with and without purging, and have noticed no difference (unless of course the smoke was harsh, and a purge was necessary). To me, doing this seems like a waste of time, and more importantly a waste of smoke. Does any also do this, or completely disagree with the practice?

You're right. Its a waste of time. Purge only when it gets too harsh; along with reducing coals.

Constant purging is stupid.

Its fun to see all the smoke come out, thats about it

Youre not removing expired smoke you're wasting good smoke.

Unless you burn your tobacco, or let it sit for a long time there really is no need or use to purging every single pull.

i rarely purge, i have seen some people that give a small puff into the hose before they pull but if you are setting it up right there is no need to do that., depending how much he is purging hes not getting much if any smoke,

i can see him doing maybe if he has let it sit for a while but still,

From the large explosion of Hookah use in the west, much of the information about history, customs, traditions, all comes from "teh most trusted source evar" the internet.

The internet has dumb people. Dumb people can be influential somehow. Sometimes they influence others to make poor decisions.

I usually tend to purge after every hit, it's usually just out of habit and to get the hookah going.

agreed contantly puring is rediculous just no need for it, unless the smoke is harsh. i usualy dont see it as a waste of smoke more then a waste of my breath.

I only purge when the smoke is harsh and when my session is over and I want to clean my hookah.

Kind of going off of what speel was saying...

Some people like to purge on occasion, because on some hookahs their purge system will push air up the stem. The air going up the stem will 'blow' on the coals a bit, as if you were blowing on them from up top to keep 'em hot.

If you're purging all of the smoke out after every single pull, you're not smoking as effectively as possible.

I purge when I'm adding the second set of coals, cause usually they add a nasty taste for a few pulls. They're exoticas, and yes, they are burnt off completely, it's just something that happens some of the time. But other than that... It looks cool to purge and refill the chamber, but that's good for about 3 seconds and then it's boring.

i only purge when my smoke gets harsh, just clear up the stem/vase and you're good to go. i actually hate purging bc i'd have to wait for the smoke to get back to what it was.

I only started purging two weeks ago. I had never done it before. Part of the problem was when we changed coals we sometimes had a problem with harsh smoke. SO because I have learned from this wonderful environment I now know to purge occasionally when it does that. Sometimes I do it for fun. LOL.

ive noticed that can happen if you get bits of burning ash that fall on the coals, its worse with coco naras since the way then ash and have the little bits. if you try smaller holes just more to make up if you need to and make sure to blow off the ash when you coal or flip or recoal it helps

i bought one of those foil punchers when i got my rig and i wish it was a size for a normal bowl not a leprechaun's bowl cause i have to put 2 more rows of holes around it to fill out.

if it was a decent size i would use it more frequently
