Default Decrease in lung capacity

Hello! I've been smoking hookah daily for about 2 months now and lately I noticed that I can't draw in as much smoke as usual. Did this happen to any of you? or do you thing that my hookah is no working as well as it used to?

your smoking... it is damaging your lungs.. but maybe there is a posibility that there is air leakage in your rig some where that is causing less smoke to pull through.

find your resting heart rate, use that to find your max heart rate, and make sure to workout at 60-80% of your max rate for 20min daily.

Go on a run once in a while, smoking without excerise will decrease lung capacity no matter what.
I usually work out 2-3 hours a day back when I smoked hookah, and my lungs were completely fine.

How is your breathing when you aren't smoking hookah? Maybe your hookah hose has buildup in it?

its probably also that youve gotten to the point where you are not taking huge hits liek you used to. if it really has changed that much in that short of a time go to the doc, if you have really noticed that much of a decrease i would bet there is something more going on that could be bad

The AMA recommends 20 minutes of exercise at target heart rate for cardiovascular benefits > 5x/wk, you are correct. Remember you need a 5 min warmup (to get to that target zone) and cool down period making that 30 min, and to really exercise you need to crosstrain at different intensities and with different modalities- weightlifting to yoga/pilates. If you are young then I definately reccommend more like 40 min... But it's not as easy as a 20 min/day protocol as mentioned, wish it was.
And I do recommend some aerobic exercise if you're feelin short of breath- photol- is right on tho.

Yeah I have noticed this...But I notice this only if I haven't exercised for a long time while smoking immensely at the same time.

I have very minor asthma and when I get exercise, my lungs go back to the way they were :P I only need my inhaler b4 exercising though.

IDK imo, I think exercising will really help you out and i really think it cleans out your lungs too. I don't smoke as much as I used to (like 3 bowls a day, everyday last month). Now, I only smoke like a bowl or 2 a day and I probably do this every other day

I have mild asthesma (never needed any meds, but still hurts like hell when I run more than a mile) and smoke hookah daily. I still can draw just fine after a few years of smoking, lift weights 4-5 days a week and am fine.

Of course, ANY type of smoke isn't good for your lungs. But, I think any idea you have about decreased breathing ability is purely psychological.

+1 on psychological.

But it may be that NO exercise mixed with hookah might cause more rapid decreases in breathing??

All i know is that i've been smoking pretty consistent for 2 years, and these past 6 months or so have been 3-4 bowls daily and i still get large pulls and can STILL exercise and play tuba/trombone as well as before.

soo.... start exercising? if not for the hookah, then for your health haha.

and if you have a hard time running, try doing low weight strength training... see a physical trainer, they are LOADS of help. i promise.

Get a chanter. Trying to learn to play the bagpipes was the best lung exercise I ever got. Also it is fun. If you put much time into it you should be able to learn to play in no time.

digereedoo is also a great lung work out and you can make one with wax and a piece of pvc, and easier to play

You may want to cut back a little. And go running or some thing once in a while.

I've smoked daily for about 6 months now, with no noticable decrease in lung capacity. However, I get winded easier, obviously. Although I did get a swollen throat after smoking for seven hours over a two day period.

people, even if you dont smoke, you need some form of exercise, regardless of how good your metabolism is. The sex will be better.

sex can count as a form of exercise if you do it right as well.

Before you jump up and try to convince your partner, remember what i said about at least 20minutes.
