Default Cleaning Question

Assuming they fit in the dishwasher, are any parts of a hookah safe to put in the dishwasher?

KM Base?
Shorter stems?
Tangier's bowls?

What if it was ran without soap? Lower temperature?

I normally clean my hookah using rubbing alcohol or lemon juice/baking soda but it just doesn't seem to get it 100% clean. Also, after smoking lucid tangiers, it took a couple rounds of cleaning before my bowl didn't smell like apple tangiers.

Just curious mainly. My hookah would get cleaned more often if this was doable.

KM base is probably too big and oddly shaped to get effectively cleaned in a dishwasher.

Soap would probably be a no no.

I would also be worried about the paint getting washed off.

As for bowls...I think they would be okay....

And IDK about the stems.

That's what I do but...I dunno...the base still doesn't smell clean to me and no matter what I do to my stem it always seem to still have gunk buildup in it.

Maybe I smoke too much haha.

The clay bowl would be fine for the dishwasher heat wise, however I wouldnt recommend any part of the hookah be put in the dishwasher for two reasons.

1) The base and stem are both either oddly shaped or too narrow for water to effectively get inside and clean them. Plus the paint on your vase would most likely peel under the temperature of water in the dishwasher.

2) While dish soap and jet dry might be just fine for cleaning things you eat and drink out of, I wouldnt trust either of those items for something you're going to be burning and inhaling.

To clean the base, either lemon juice and baking soda and swish it around for a bit, or if its super dirty, get some kosher salt and a bottle of rubbing alcohol, dump the salt and alcohol in, cover with your hand, and shake the bottle. After that rinse it real well, then do the lemon juice and baking soda trick.

For the stem, pour the baking soda down the stem, then use a squirt bottle to squirt the lemon juice down there, itll foam up, the use a cleaning brush or a pipe cleaner to scrub it out and then wash it under warm water.

Easiest place to wash stems are in the shower or with a garden hose.

Edit : Personally after every 4 or 5 smokes I take a little bit of Dawn dish soap and pour it in my base with hot water, drop in a few cotton balls, and swirl them around a bit to clean off any mild buildup off the glass, my bowl usually stays clean enough this way that I dont have to resort to much else, rinse it out 5 or 6 times to get the soap out and you're good to go.

I don't think any part of the hookah is really dishwasher safe, nor would the dishwasher be very effective on most parts.

If it is getting really nasty and you want to do a complete cleaning. Fill your bathtub with hot water and put the stem in there and let it soak for a while. Then run your brush thru it a few times and lit it soak some more. Brush it again then give it the lemon juice/baking soda and scrub again.. This is extreme but should be effective

As for the vase, rinse it real good with hot water then, add the baking soda and lemon juice. Add enough that the foam comes all the way up to the top of the vase and let it sit for 15 minutes or more. Then brush it and rinse well.

Don't try any of this on your hoses!

On your washable hoses, you use vinegar and water right?

Or lemon juice and baking soda, either one. Run warm water through em afterwords.

I wouldnt let vinegar sit in it too long, its slightly more acidic than lemon juice and might damage the rubber.

For base, just lemon juice and baking soda, like the hose, thats what I use, you can wear the paint off in the dishwasher.

The hose is the same as the base.

The stem is the same as the base.

The bowl....is dishwasher safe.

The only dish washer safe part of any egyptian hookah is probably the tray and tongs.

The vase is delicate and may crack if the water is too hot or the temperature varies too rapidly, plus the paint will wash off.

If its a copper/brass stem and small enough you could try it, but I wouldnt recommend it with any type of stem as they are not always all copper/brass or stainless steel and you will risk spreading rust.

Hope this helps.

Mike

i wouldnt do it. i have put bowls in the dish washer but found it to not be effective.

the base would probably be fine but it probably wont wash well and i would risk it depending on how the base is made (type of glass, quality of glass, imperfections, etc)

hand washing should be fine, use effierdient to clean the base out (4-6 tabs in a full vase)
