Default Quicklite taste problem

HEy guys! I keep having this problem. I usually need a second set of charcoal after teh first to finish my bowl but altho I wait for them to ash over they still taste like petroleum and mothballs. Why do you think that happens and how could I prevent it?

Yeah what brand, also new or old shisha. I notice some of my old stuff develops a different flavor over a long time.

Don't use QL. Problem solved! The only QL I have ever purchased is the ******* Hookah QL's which are great. Stick to natural coals man, the QL's (aside from ******* Hookah QL's) always gave me a bad taste. I got some when I purchased my first hookah and from a purchase at Sahara Smoke. I had Akhla and Golden Coals and they were no good. The Golden Coals were ok, but like I say ******* Hookah QL's and if not that, go for Naturals. Period.

If you're lighting the coals and putting them on the bowl before they ash, you'll still get some flavor even if you dont smoke off them. Also, setting them in the tray next to the bowl will also allow some of the smoke coming off them to be pulled down into the shisha if you smoke while the new coals are ashing.

Best thing to do is set the coals off on the side in a holder and let them ash away from the bowl. Then after they've completely ashed put em on top and start smoking.

Also, cheap quick lights are your worst enemy in coal flavor.

Peace,
Waffle

I've never had any problems with bad taste and I have had smoke sessions as long as 2.5 hours. Three sets of coals and the flavor was actually better on the second and third set of two. The brand will make a big difference as some are lower quality than others. I usually light the next set and let them sit off to the side as the current set is getting close to ending.
