Default Is this normal?..coals

Well I bought some of ******* Hookahs coconut coals ( not the quick light ones ) and I use a single coil burner so I throw 3 of them on it and 5 mins later their smoking .. like a burning type of smoking. The coil was set on low.. just curious to if this is normal for these coals.

mine have never actually smoked. maybe something was on the burner? I have done that before with other coals. i'll flip them and realize the tongs have shisha juice on them and it burns up.

******* hookahs coals are said to be really really close to coconaras......i just heated up my coconaras using a single burner and i crank it up to high. They actually have a flame on them when they get really hot and i blow on them. So i imagine smoking at a lower temp is just fine. Are they glowing red?

I'd crank it up to high and see what happends....

Yea thats what I usually do with my coco naras but these were smoking so bad that my smoke alarm went off, I didn't do anything different as I would with the coconaras. Strange.

Maybe you got the Ql ones instead!

Seeing as how Nat. coals don't release smoke.

Hey, I studied the ways the CH burned in both varieties in comparison with other coals.

The natural coals will release a coal smell when first lit, both the coconara and the CH, but it shouldn't be smokey unless youre in a smaller unventilated room.

The QLs smoke like crazy.

The CH and coconara both catch fire when ready.

CH gets ready quicker than coconara.

Other people get different results with ash, but for me, they ash the same, and up close they appear to have the same consistency.

+1 that something was on the burner. I've put coals on my burner before that looked completely clean... but started smoking once the heat got up.

It should be pretty obvious if its the burner smoking or the coal itself.

Do they spark? Call up John and talk to him about it. Im sure it'll straighten it all out for ya....

+1 to this. I think by now Speel would know the difference between a coil burning off smoke and the coal itself. Easily found by simply lifting the coal off the coil. And as for environment, he's not doing anything different from when he lights Coconaras. He's not hiding in a closet with poor ventilation. I say try more from that same box and see if any others react that way. Afterall it is a man made manufactured item, meaning nowhere near perfect. It's possible QLs were dropped in the wrong box at manufacture as well. Good luck figuring it out Speel.

Speel, that's not normal. If you have msn and a pc cam we could go through this together. Just let me know when so I can give you my undivided attn. I have been using these coals daily since they were released, at least 30 boxes for personal use and have sold thousands without this. Let's figure it out thanks

this happens to me all the time on my home stove's coil burner. i have to turn the alarm off when i start them because they smoke and set the alarm off =(

maybe the temperature isn't as high or something on them?

they work fine when they are ready though.

when the CH coals are heated on lower heat they smoke a lot for a while, just crank it to full blast and they will light up fast and the smoke should be over faster.

they do have much more of a smell than any other natural coal ive used, but it doesnt linger and isnt there when smoked, plus they are a great price so its not a big deal
