Default Ohh Shit! is this normal?

Me and my friends got together at my house to smoke some shisha and i asked my little brother to light smoke coals. He put 2 coconara coals on a new single urner that i recently ordered from Nazar Hookah and a few minutes later heard some electric shock that sounded like it was out of the movie Terminator when he comes the time portal and could see lights flashing through the gap in the door. I ran into the kitchen and my brother was in shock. He told me that he saw electric sparks come out of the Single burner about 2 foot high. I turned off the switch at the socket with a wooden stick and a bit scared to try and see if it still works. Anyone got any experince with this?

Yes probably water. That's dangerous man...I'd stop using it after such an experience.

The voltage in England is 240 volts and the sockets are 3 pin but im using an adapter, which i thought would sort the difference out.

If it's 110 or 120 volt appliance 240 would probably fry it!

The UK outlets use 230V power transformers, meaning that all appliances draw 230V for appliances. The US has 120V lines. Most, if not all, appliances made in the US are meant for 120V, but have tolerances up to 240V for international outlets. This burner may not have that tolerance...unless it's water damage, this seems like it might be the case.

You should be able to find a voltage transformer at any electronics store that will step down the voltage from 230V to 120V—assuming this is the problem, it will fix it and it should work normally.

I think you might be right about the voltage. It definitely wasn't water. There's different settings on the burner and ive been using the high setting, which gets so hot that the coals set on fire. It's a real shame i've only had it for 5 days. Check the pics out.

Ok so I agree about the whole calling ghost busters thing. However, on a more serious note, I have had the lovely experience of taking American electrical devices to Europe. Usually the adapters have a control in them. They have resistors and what not to reduce the currents. Some of them do not. I have found if you get the cheap converters even the ones that say they have it will sometimes fry your device. My electric razor was never the same after my trip to Russia. I have never replaced it. May it rest in peace. Oh well I like my beard now.

Those adapters don't drop the voltage. They simply make the plug fit in the socket. If the device you are plugging in doesn't specifically say that it works on 240v, I wouldn't try it. Most heating devices are very voltage specific.

I learned this the hard way when I took many of my USA 110v gadgets with me when I went to Cyprus where they have 240v. Some electronic devices like computers and phones and such will work on either voltage. Other more primitive devices like heating elements will not! Always read the labels!!
