Hmmm....

CC have this nasty, woodsy taste...even if it IS ashed over and red hot! imo! For some reason, I taste it more with light flavors. Pleh. I mean...Its an alright coal...But its so expensive

CH coals are pretty good, but imo, they don't give enough heat. I'd have like 3 naturals on a phunnel and I have to add a windcover b/c it doesn't give enough heat. I'd out 4 coals but that would be too much. I love John still ^_^

If these were your only options, I'd say CH.

If not...Another good one is Exoticas (Ahhh yes I hear people yelling at me now! lmao) The new exoticas that just came out like a few weeks ago are amazing. It looks like Gabe, the maker, made them even more dense (he even made his original product denser before this). They last noticeably longer imo and there is no added taste.

Pssh my local shop sells a kilo for $5 each! Cocos plus shipping is like almost $20 or a lil less to get. I could buy about 4 boxes of Exoticas for that money and that lasts me like 3 1/2 to 4 months while 1 coco box lasts for little less for a month for me.

This is just my opinion. Each to their own.

I can't get them for $5 but I agree with you. Coconut coals suck, plain and simple. I hate that the ash resembles sand and breaks loose from the coal easily, I hate that you have to flip them every 5 minutes or they start to go out and give off a nasty wood smoke taste, I hate that they take twice as long as an Exotica to light, I hate that 1 coal isn't enough for a standard Egyptian bowl but 2 is too much and they are very hard to break, and I hate that they are so expensive. I've been using Exoticas for 99% of the time for over a year now and have had no problems worth mentioning.

I actually love CH coals, i use the CLs (glasstop stove) and my entire setup might take 2-3 minutes tops? No taste, not the longest lasting (30-50 minutes depend on what type of smoker you are) but just great all around. Seem to be cheaper than cocos as well!

i dont know if you tried CH charcoals but you dont have to ash them ao turn them over. if they strt dying out use a wind cover. they should last you 45 mins with a wind cover.

I tried them and reviewed them. Better than coco nara but I still don't care for coco coals. I use a windcover the whole session every session.

well cocos have less smell when lighting up, give more heat when small, and ash less but CH are more consistent size, last almost as long, and are a lot cheaper

i just bought a bunch of CH coals after i went through a bunch of cocos. the CH are much cheaper and can smoke just about as long so i think they will be my coal of choice, plus john was very helpful and nice so it makes me want to support him more. after i smoke a bunch of the CH coals i am going to try come cocos again (still have some) to see if i notice any real difference in taste or smoking quality

I would get extoicas but they work out the same price shipped to the UK as they are so damn heavy, so atm coconara's for me, as they work out similar to CH coals if i buy in bulk

I started off by using exoticas but got lazy and swithed to chql. The other day I went back to exoticas and I must say it was great. Chql are great coals but exoticas are phenomenal. So now I use exoticas but ocasionally I'll use chql

I like Coconara better. They don't ash as much, put out better heat, and last a little longer. I get a little over an hour out of my cocos and 3 of them work well on a phunnel bowl. If I ever have to ash them, it is only once per session.

honestly with the CH coals the ash gets all in the shisha but it doesnt seem to change the flavor so im starting to think ashing them is only to keep a lose layer of ash from jumping around on the bowl

If you dont care about the price the cocos are better naturals, but johns qls are basicly almost as good and they are cheaper and light way easier. So id go with the qls they dont taste like em!!

Everyone has their preferences, I prefer most naturals, depending on outdoor or indoor location, quick lights are a thing of the past for me, I personally feel the extra effort is worth it in lighting naturals.
